Inception · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
In a world where technology exists to enter the human mind through dream invasion, a single idea within one's mind can be the most dangerous weapon or the most valuable asset.

Inception is a perfect example of a movie that mixes special effects and a deep and rich plot in a landscape littered with movies that only seem to care about effects. Inception is a thinking man’s movie one that even when it’s over you can’t seem to shut off your brain as it has you ask and answer so many questions in its two and half hour running time that it almost causes overload. You are never really sure what is real and what is not and not since movies like the Matrix or Memento has this been done so beautifully and entertainingly.

Eclipse · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob -- knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

I was literally bored out of my mind for the entire movie as nothing really happens and there is only one action sequence to break up the monotony of the film. All the things they had done in the previous movies to make the adaptations more bearable are gone from this movie. Gone is the pacing, gone is the addition of a little more action, gone is making these movies watchable...

Toy Story 3 · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Woody and Buzz had accepted that their owner Andy would grow up someday, but what happens when that day arrives? In the third installment, Andy is preparing to depart for college, leaving his loyal toys troubled about their uncertain future.

What more can be said about Pixar that hasn’t been said. Pixar has such a knack for fine detail, wonderful storytelling, and gorgeous visuals that even after eleven films they still deliver some of the best movies that are released now days. Toy Story 3 does not let down on any of these aspects as once again the film tells an amazing and compelling story that will draw you in all the while delivering it in wonderful animation that has been copied so much in the last decade but never equaled.

The A-Team · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
A colorful team of former Special Forces soldiers were set up for a crime they did not commit. Going "rogue," they utilize their unique talents to try and clear their names and find the true culprit.

There was something wrong with the A-team that just didn’t sit right with me throughout the entire film and I think the problem was that the A-team just wasn’t made for the big screen. The A-team is your perfect serialized television show where each week there is a new adventure, a new case that wraps up so very neatly so they can move on to the next job and the next adventure. That doesn’t translate well to a two hour movie as you can’t pull off that serialized feel in a film format. That is not to say that the film wasn’t fun and entertaining at times but it was your typical Hollywood summer blockbuster...

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Set in the mystical lands of Persia, a rogue prince and a mysterious princess race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time - a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Sometimes I think it is better to have not seen or in this case played the original source material before seeing its big screen adaptation. Coming into Prince of Persia with little or no background information on the game allowed me to just sit back and enjoy the film without having to analyze and compare it to anything else. And enjoy the movie is what I did. I enjoyed it for what it was, a mindless action film with lots of special effects and fighting...

Shrek Forever After · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
A bored and domesticated Shrek pacts with deal-maker Rumpelstiltskin to get back to feeling like a real ogre again, but when he's duped and sent to a twisted version of Far Far Away -- where Rumpelstiltskin is king, ogres are hunted, and he and Fiona have never met -- he sets out to restore his world and reclaim his true love.

Shrek Forever After felt like two films as the first portion of the film deals with the mess that the third film left and the rest of the film feels like an effort to remove themselves as far away as possible from that film. So that being said the first portion of the film was actually quite dull and lifeless and once the film moved to its alternate reality it actually recaptured some of the magic from the first two films of the series.

Iron Man 2 · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
In "Iron Man 2," the world is aware that billionaire inventor Tony Stark is the armored Super Hero Iron Man. Under pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military, Tony is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind the Iron Man armor because he fears the information will slip into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts and James "Rhodey" Rhodes at his side, Tony forges new alliances and confronts powerful new forces.

For some odd reason the second installment of sequels for comic book movies has been the best in recent memory and the same holds true for Iron Man as well. With the back story out of the way and everyone aware that Tony Stark is Iron Man the sequel is able to jump right into the action and just blow you away from the get go.

The Losers · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit are sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The team -- Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar -- find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max. Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they're joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily-guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war.

I don’t know how to feel about the Losers. I liked the film but also it was very cheesy and over the top and just way too silly at times. I definitely didn’t laugh at hard at the silly jokes as the audience I saw the film with did.

Kick-Ass · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.

Sometimes when you watch a film you could swear the movie was done by a different director as it seems to just bleed that directors style and panache. For me Kick Ass at times seemed like a Quentin Tarantino film as it just seemed to have his kind of style and love of martial arts films especially the music interludes. The music interludes had that campy fun 1970’s nostalgic feel to them ala a Tarantino film and were so much fun also ala a Tarantino fun. Kick-Ass on the other hand also had its own style as well a more modern take and not just a fun tribute to 1970’s campy kung fu films.

Clash of the Titans · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
The mortal son of the god Zeus embarks on a perilous journey to stop the underworld and its minions from spreading their evil to Earth as well as the heavens.

I am not a big fan of remakes and reboots but occasionally a movie almost seems perfect for a modern adaptation and Clash of the Titans is one of those kinds of movies. The 1981 film is a movie of its era and time and almost entirely too cheesy with special effects that were even dated back then. So a modern remake of the film seems like a perfect idea with the movie getting to benefit from today’s technology and effects. But despite the fact that the film seemed perfect for a remake the modern adaptation left a lot to be desired and failed to me more than just another big FX ridden popcorn flick.

Alice in Wonderland · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
19-year-old Alice returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends: the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dormouse, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Mad Hatter. Alice embarks on a fantastical journey to find her true destiny and end the Red Queen's reign of terror.

I really like the idea of just making a sequel or spin off to such a classic tales like Alice in Wonderland rather that trying to remake the story or reboot it. I think most people are very familiar with Alice and there is no need to remake the film as the Disney classic is good enough by itself but it is a fantastic idea to continue the story of Wonderland and have some more tales and stories from Alice. I thought the film was beautiful, fanciful and just plain fun.

Cop Out · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Two longtime NYPD partners on the trail of a stolen, rare, mint-condition baseball card find themselves up against a merciless, memorabilia-obsessed gangster. Jimmy the veteran detective whose missing collectible is his only hope to pay for his daughter's upcoming wedding, and Paul is his "partner-against-crime" whose preoccupation with his wife's alleged infidelity makes it hard for him to keep his eye on the ball.

Absurd, silly, ridiculous and actually quite funny. Cop Out is the kind of film that knows how to laugh at itself, laugh at all the previous buddy cop films that have come before it, laugh at an entire genre and just be utterly silly all at the same time. If you go into the film taking it even remotely serious you are going to be seriously disappointed

Shutter Island · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, are summoned to a remote and barren island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island's fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.

At first glance Shutter Island isn’t your typical Martin Scorsese film. It is a much more psychological thriller and mind game kind of movie that one might associate more with a director like David Fincher yet it does have that very trademark kind of Scorsese feel to it. It is also the kind of film that shows that Scorsese is one of the finest directors in all of Hollywood as he takes a leave of absence from his normal genre of gangster films and proves that he can deliver in another genre as well.

TThe Wolfman · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Lawrence Talbot is a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father, Talbot sets out to find his brother...and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself.

I am not a big fan of modern horror because they always forget one important fact and that’s that you don’t have to show every grimy detail to scare people. More often than not in a film going audience that has been desensitized with violence and gore it is better to the let that audience use their own imaginations and that will truly frighten them rather then bathing them in a bath of blood and guts. The latest incarnation of man turned beast follows that route showing to much, giving to much away and leaves very little to the imagination. That being said Wolfman wasn’t that bad of a movie...

Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Clareece "Precious" Jones is an overweight, illiterate African-American teen in Harlem. Just as she's about to give birth to her second child, Jones is accepted into an alternative school where a teacher helps her find a new path in her life.

Ugly. This is the only word that I could come up with to describe the movie. Precious is ugliness, it’s the ugliness that resides in every human being, the ugliness that resides in society all wrapped into a film that is ugly itself. Precious is a film devoid of hope, devoid of humanity, devoid of anything good in mankind and in the end without hope without goodness all that is left is the most bitter, most hateful side of mankind the ugly side. The film made me feel sick, it made me feel sad, it made me fell disgusted...

Dear John · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
"Dear John" tells story of John Tyree, a young soldier home on leave, and Savannah Curtis, the idealistic college student he falls in love with during her spring vacation. Over the next seven tumultuous years, the couple is separated by John's increasingly dangerous deployments. While meeting only sporadically, they stay in touch by sending a continuous stream of love letters overseas -- correspondence that eventually triggers fateful consequences.

Nicholas Sparks’ books make very good movie adaptations as they have a rich story and good plots to them. There is nothing entirely special about them except they keep you entertained and don’t pander to you like many romantic comedies do. They are the kind of “chick flicks” that are bearable for the male gender as he is known to mix in a little action with the romance and the films have a good plot to them.

A low-ranking intelligence operative working in the office of the U.S. Ambassador in France takes on more than he bargained for when he partners with a wisecracking, fast-shooting, high-ranking U.S. agent who's been sent to Paris to stop a terrorist attack.

From Paris with Love is the kind of film you shouldn’t like bit despite that for some reason you find yourself liking it. It is over the top, action packed, mindless entertainment that while it has a thousand flaws and a thousand things wrong with it you still find it entertaining and not a bad way to wile away and afternoon at a matinee. Edge of Darkness · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
"Edge of Darkness" is an emotionally charged thriller set at the intersection of politics and big business. Thomas Craven is a veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Department and a single father.

It seems like an eternity since we saw Mel Gibson on the big screen, well almost eight years in Hollywood is an eternity. You almost forget at one time Gibson was a Hollywood mainstay known for his acting and not his crazy antics off the set. But in Edge of Darkness Gibson returns to the screen once more with a vengeance in a role that is tailor fit for him. Dark and vengeful ala Ransom and Payback with just a touch of insanity ala the Lethal Weapon series...

The Book of Eli · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
In the not-too-distant future, across the wasteland of what once was America, a lone warrior (Denzel Washington) must fight to bring civilization the knowledge that could be the key to its redemption and save the future of humanity.

I am not sure how they managed to make a full-length picture out of a story that is so skimpy that strippers wear more when stripping. It’s like they took an outline for a movie and rather than flesh out the story and add depth to the movie they just decided to throw a big name actor into the film and just have him do lots bad ass stunts and killings. The sad part is that there was actually a story there if they had bothered to go with it rather than just a rough outline of a movie.

Up in the Air · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
With a job that has him traveling around the country firing people, Ryan Bingham leads an empty life out of a suitcase, until his company does the unexpected: ground him.

I don’t think Up in the Air could have been better timed in its release as it fits perfectly with today’s economic recession even though the book it is based on was written in 2001. The film has a wonderful story that not only mixes in the recession but also tells a tale of one man who has spent a life of solitude finding out that he possibly missed out on more than he thought he had. The film is essentially two stories one of those stories being how his actions effect others and the second story being how his actions and solitude have effected him...

Top 10 Films of 2009 · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
The year 2009 was the year of Science Fiction and Horror movies. Now normally I am big Sci-fi fan and not so much of a horror fan but this year two of the top ten movies of the year just happened to be horror films. On the other hand three of the top ten were Science fiction with fantasy also take a role in films like Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

There was there fair share of bad films as well led by the disaster of a film that just happened to be a disaster flick in 2012. And in January romantic comedies hit an all time low with one of the worst films to ever come out of that genre in Bride Wars. The year though was led with fun action romps in Inglousious Basterds and some comedy in the Hangover. over all 2009 was a good year even if it was a little mediocre at times escpecially during some of the summer months.

2009 Golden Globe Winners · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
With the Oscars expanding to ten films this year we may see more simalarties between the Globes and the Oscars in epic purportions. The Globes have done ten nominations for forty years now while the Oscars abandoned that many nominees more than sixty years ago. Although I doubt even with ten nominations that the film for Best Comedy or Music winner the Proposal will see an Oscar nomination. The Oscars still seem to stuffy to honor comedies and instead will likely just be adding a few more household blockbusters.

I also recently just saw Up in the Air and it would have easily made my top ten list had i seen it before I mad the list and was better than the winner in the Best Drama category in Avatar. Only time will tell how much the Oscars will begin to look like the globes with more movies in contention,

Sherlock Holmes · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Robert Downey Jr. brings the legendary detective to life as he has never been portrayed before. Jude Law stars as Holmes' trusted colleague, Watson, a doctor and war veteran who is a formidable ally for Sherlock Holmes. Rachel McAdams stars as Irene Adler, the only woman ever to have bested Holmes and who has maintained a tempestuous relationship with the detective. Mark Strong stars as their mysterious new adversary, Blackwood. Kelly Reilly will play Watson's love interest, Mary.

When I was a kid my grandmother had a very old collection of Sherlock Holmes books that she would read to us I remember those stories more than I remember the dozens of times Sherlock Holmes has graced the silver screen. Sherlock Holmes is the character that has appeared in more movies than any other character ever and that includes the likes of heroes like James Bond.

Avatar · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Avatar takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home. James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of "Titanic," first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not exist yet. Now, after four years of production, AVATAR, a live action film with a new generation of special effects, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

It’s been a long time since James Cameron has directed, written or even produced a film and it is very fitting that his first film since he won best director a dozen years ago is a sci-fi film. Sci-fi films are what made him famous...

New Moon · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
After Bella recovers from the vampire attack that almost claimed her life, she looks to celebrate her birthday with Edward and his family. However, a minor accident during the festivities results in Bella's blood being shed, a sight that proves too intense for the Cullens, who decide to leave the town of Forks, Washington for Bella and Edward's sake. Initially heartbroken, Bella finds a form of comfort in reckless living, as well as an even-closer friendship with Jacob Black. Danger in different forms awaits.

It’s extremely rare, well at least for me and I know I am not alone in this sentiment, that you enjoy a movie vastly more than the book it was based on. But for the second time and for the second film in the Twilight Saga I have enjoyed the movie far more than I enjoyed the book. The main reason being is that Stephanie Meyer as an author has no sense of pacing, plot or storytelling...

2012 · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Never before has a date in history been so significant to so many cultures, so many religions, scientists, and governments. "2012" is an epic adventure about global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.

Terrible. That one word describes 2012 oh so very well. A few years ago whole writing a review I thought they should come up with a new category for films called the Murphy’s Law category. These are the kind of films where the actors and characters run from one disaster to the next and where anything that bad can happen does happen. Recently the media has started dubbing films like 2012 disaster porn and that is what the film does it mixes Murphy’s Law with Disaster Porn.

A Christmas Carol · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Ebenezer Scrooge begins the Christmas holiday with his usual miserly contempt, barking at his faithful clerk and his cheery nephew. But, when the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come take him on an eye-opening journey revealing truths Old Scrooge is reluctant to face, he must open his heart to undo years of ill will before it's too late.

Gimmick: an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, especially one designed to attract attention or increase appeal. That is the best description of A Christmas Carol I can give as it is so gimmicky that it makes you want to tear you hair out. Not only do they have to go with the live animation style director Robert Zemeckis loves so much as if that wasn’t enough they have to throw 3D on top of it to make the movie so nauseating that you almost don’t want to watch it anymore.

Paranormal Activity · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
After a young, middle class couple moves into what seems like a typical suburban "starter" tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be demonic, but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep. Or try to.

I read that the plan originally with Paranormal Activity was to remake the low budget indy film with Hollywood flare and then just release the original on DVD. This smacks with how out of touch Hollywood can be with the movie going public. For some reason there is this thought process that the only way to make a good movie is with an extremely large budget and going all out on everything they do. Its like throwing glitter paint on the Mona Lisa and calling better because now its all shiny.

Where the Wild Things Are · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Max, a rambunctious and sensitive boy feels misunderstood at home and escapes to where the Wild Things are. He lands on an island where he meets mysterious and strange creatures whose emotions are as wild and unpredictable as their actions.

Where the Wild Things as is a film based on a beloved and cherished book that I have to admit I don’t ever remember reading so I came into the movie with a fresh outlook and no comparisons to its literary work. And for the most part I really wasn’t impressed by the movie. Sure the film is a fun, fanciful look into childhood that unravels with an almost gleeful joy at the new and strange but in the end it bogs down and the story goes nowhere. The entire middle section of the movie is somewhat boring and tiresome...
