Movies to Look Foward Too
American Gangster

Release Date: November 2nd, 2007
Starring: Russell Crowe, Denzel Washington, Josh Brolin, Common, Ted Levine
Director: Ridley Scott
Trailer

Based on the life of drug-kingpin-turned-informant, Frank Lucas, who grew up in segregated North Carolina where he watched as his cousin was shot by the Klan for looking at a white girl. He eventually made his way to Harlem where he became a heroin kingpin by traveling to Asia's Golden Triangle to make connections, shipping heroin back to the US in the coffins of soldiers killed in Vietnam. He soon made upwards of one million dollars a day in drug sales. Lucas was shadowed by lawman, Richie Roberts, who finally helped bring the kingpin to justice. The two then worked together to expose the crooked cops and foreign nationals who made importing heroin so easy.

Why you should look forward to this movie:
While the image of Denzel as a tough hard nosed black man with a gun has been played to death this movie still looks like one of those fantastic ganster/mafia movies that we all love. Much like last years the Departed it also has some pretty big names in the film and takes a interesting look on the mafia this time with a black man in charge instead of italians.

The Golden Compass

Release Date: December 7th, 2007
Starring: Nicole Kidman, Dakota Blue Richards, Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Sam Elliott
Director: Chris Weitz
Trailer

t was no ordinary life for a young girl: living among scholars in the hallowed halls of Jordan College and tearing unsupervised through Oxford's motley streets on mad quests for adventure. But Lyra's greatest adventure would begin closer to home, the day she heard hushed talk of an extraordinary particle. Microscopic in size, the magical dust- found only in the vast Artic expanse of the North -was rumored to possess profound properties that could unite whole universes. But there were those who feared the particle and would stop at nothing to destroy it. Catapulted into the heart of a terrible struggle, Lyra was forced to seek aid from clans, gyptians, and formidable armored bears. And as she journeyed into unbelievable danger, she had not the faintest clue that she alone was destined to win, or to lose, this more-than-mortal battle.

Why you should look forward to this movie:
The first 15 seconds of the trailer nearly ruined it for me though. The movie looks fantastic so I really don't think you need to hitch yourself to the Lord of the Rings to sell your movie. Just let the movie sell itself, I don't care what you have done in the past only what you are about to do now. I have not had a chance to read the book yet but evidently the book is supposed to be fantastic too.

Why you should look forward to this movie:
While 28 Days Later kind of stole the furor of this movie with its sureal images of Cillian Murphy wandering a deserted London, this time its Will Smith wandering the deserted streets of New York. This movie looks to have that same feeling og unease we got with 28 Days but this time it looks to be more prolonged as Murphy quickly found out the cause of the desolation. Not may movies come along that capture that unease and when they do you just want to see them even if they look a lot like the previous movie.

National Treasure 2: Book of secrets

Release Date: December 21st, 2007
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, Ed Harris, Helen Mirren, Justin Bartha
Director: Jon Turteltaub
Trailer

In this follow up to the box-office hit "National Treasure," treasure hunter Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) once again sets out on an exhilarating, action-packed new global quest to unearth hidden history and treasures.

When a missing page from the diary of John Wilkes Booth surfaces, Ben's great-great grandfather is suddenly implicated as a key conspirator in Abraham Lincoln's death. Determined to prove his ancestor's innocence, Ben follows an international chain of clues that takes him on a chase from Paris to London and ultimately back to America. This journey leads Ben and his crew not only to surprising revelations - but to the trail of the world's most treasured secrets.

Why you should look forward to this movie:
I probably shouldn't be looking forward to this movie as this at some level looks like the studio's trying to cash in on a successful first movie. Granted the story line wasn't completly tied up and there might always be more treasure to hunt but they still pretty much did a good job with the first movie that made it so you really didn't need a sequel. But then again the idea is still fun, who doesn't like a good ole fashioned treasure hunt and you still have all the main characters so the movie could end up being really good.

Clover Field

Release Date: January 18th, 2008
Starring: Michael Stahl David, Odet Jasmin, Mike Vogel, Lizzy Caplan, Blake Lively
Director: Matt Reeves
Trailer

A monster attack in New York as told from the point of view of a small group of people.

This top-secret project set the Internet atwitter the week before Transformers came out last July. Known by the name Cloverfield or Clover, we understand it is a lower budget, NYC-set thriller from the pen of Drew Goddard, a veteran of the Buffyverse who first teamed up with producer J.J. Abrams as a writer-producer on "Alias;" another Abrams cronie, Matt Reeves, is directing.

Beside being a big fan of JJ Abrams, the trailer leaves you absolutly giddy with excitement. True the whole keeping everything under wraps and refusing to let people know what the movie is about or even the title of the film can drive you crazy at times but still how can you not be intrigue by this movie.

Fanboys

Release Date: January 18th, 2008
Starring: Michael Stahl David, Odet Jasmin, Mike Vogel, Lizzy Caplan, Blake Lively
Director: Matt Reeves

A fanatical group of Star Wars devotees travel across the country on a mission to steal a print of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace from Skywalker Ranch and become the first fans to see the film in a rowdy, sci-fi flavored road comedy starring Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, Dan Folger, Jay Baruchel, and Kristen Bell. Carrie Fisher, William Shatner, and Ray Park turn up for cameos in the one comedy that truly understands the fanboy mindset.

True geekdom love for this movie. I mean a group of star wars geeks decide to drive cross country to steal a copy of the Phantom Menace before it has been released what's not to love. I mean this movie will be chalk full of geek references and funny moments that those of us who are geeks will absolutly love. The moment I saw the trailer for this movie I tried to hunt it down not realizing it had yet to be released.

Iron Man

Release Date: May 2nd, 2008
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, Shaun Toub
Director: Jon Favreau
Trailer

Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and inventor, is kidnapped and forced by his captors to design and build a weapon. Secretly, Stark instead creates a mechanized suit of armor and escapes. Returning to the U.S., he discovers a dangerous plot and becomes Iron Man to stop it.

Originally I wasn't really looking forward to this movie as it seems the comic book movie trend as been beaten to death. Then I saw the trailer and all of a sudden yes this movie is going to be awesome feeling came over me. Robert Downey Jr. couldn't be more perfect for the part and it looks like the movie will be a true adapation like spiderman rather than a half assed adaption like Ghost Rider.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Release Date: May 22nd, 2008
Starring: Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Ray Winstone
Director: Steven Spielberg

Indiana Jones returns for another adventure.

While the title may make you cringe and want to ball up into the fetal posittion this movie really looks like it could be the real thing. I don't doubt Steven Spielberg but in recent years I have come to doubt George Lucas and whether he has it anymore. But from everything coming out from this movie it supposedly is supposed to be pretty good. Indiana Jones is still a great character and you have to want to see if they can capture the magic one more time.

The Dark Knight

Release Date: July 18th, 2008
Starring: Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Heath Ledger
Director: Christopher Nolan

Batman, Lt.Jim Gordon and D.A. Harvey Dent team up in an effort to stop the villainous Joker, a theatrical serial killer who lives for the sole purpose of causing harm to the citizens of Gotham, as well as The Dark knight. At the same time, Batman begins to uncover more of the corruption that is plaguing Gotham City, with the arrival of crime boss Salvatore Maroni.

It is being rumored that the role of the Joker has gone to Heath Ledger. I am not sure he is the right actor as I would have prefered Brody.

Why you should look forward to this movie:
Batman Begins gave a shot in the arm to the entire franchise after it had fallen on hard times. Probably the best Batman of all the movies so its hard to not be juiced about the sequel. We will get to now see them reinvent the most notrous Batman Villan in the Joker and possibly even Two Face. Here's hopping for a little Harley Quinn.

Sin City 2

Release Date: 2007
Starring: Jessica Alba, Devon Aoki, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Brittany Murphy, Clive Owen, Mickey Rourke
Director: Robert Rodriquez

It's one of those hot nights, dry and windless. The kind that makes people do sweaty, secret things. Dwight's thinking of all the ways he's screwed up and what he'd give for one clear chance to wipe the slate clean, to dig his way out of the numb gray hell that is his life. And he'd give anything. Just to cut loose. Just to feel the fire. One more time.

Dwight is experiencing some problems when him and his girlfriend, Ava Lord, get reunited, Nancy wants to avenge Hartigan's death by going after the Roarks, a man in the military gets mysteriously killed while trying to cook a rat, and we get to explore some details in Hartigan's past.

Why you should look forward to this movie:
Sin City was like watching a comic book leap off the pages and there is so much more story that can be told and that should be told, I don't know how you couldn't be excited about a sequel. Some of the more awesome characters like Marv may be gone but the movie still should have no let down.
