Sequels and Remakes

National Treasure 2: Book of secrets

Release Date: December 21st, 2007
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, Ed Harris, Helen Mirren, Justin Bartha
Director: Jon Turteltaub
Trailer

In this follow up to the box-office hit "National Treasure," treasure hunter Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) once again sets out on an exhilarating, action-packed new global quest to unearth hidden history and treasures.

When a missing page from the diary of John Wilkes Booth surfaces, Ben's great-great grandfather is suddenly implicated as a key conspirator in Abraham Lincoln's death. Determined to prove his ancestor's innocence, Ben follows an international chain of clues that takes him on a chase from Paris to London and ultimately back to America. This journey leads Ben and his crew not only to surprising revelations - but to the trail of the world's most treasured secrets.

My thoughts:
I probably shouldn't be looking forward to this movie as this at some level looks like the studio's trying to cash in on a successful first movie. Granted the story line wasn't completly tied up and there might always be more treasure to hunt but they still pretty much did a good job with the first movie that made it so you really didn't need a sequel. But then again the idea is still fun, who doesn't like a good ole fashioned treasure hunt and you still have all the main characters so the movie could end up being really good.
Final Verdict: Yes?

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem

Release Date: December 25th, 2007
Starring: Reiko Aylesworth, Steven Pasquale, Gina Holden, David Hornsby (II), Johnny Lewis (II)
Director: Colin Strause, Greg Strause

The bestial baddies go disgusting-toe-to-disgusting-toe in this follow-up to the sci-fi smash ALIEN VS. PREDATOR.

My thoughts:
Another cash cow. The Predator movies were pretty good as was the first two aliens movies and them squaring off in a movie wasn't a total loss but how much more can there be done with the movies. We already had the epic duel, so what now.
Final Verdict: No.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Release Date: May 22nd, 2008
Starring: Harrison Ford (Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones Jr.), Sean Connery (Dr. H. Jones Sr.), Karen Allen (cameo) (Marion Ravenwood), Kate Capshaw (cameo) (Wilhelmina Scott), John Rhys-Davies (Sallah); Other cast are not yet announced.
Director: Stephen Spielberg

This isn't known, to the slightest degree. With Harrison Ford saying he's waiting for a script everyone likes, it's very likely that the script that eventually gets made may not be one of those 11 at all (or maybe it will be, hard to tell). Anyway, 11 different stories is just too much for me to get into, so I refer you to Indyfan.com for now. Not much is known yet about the story that Frank Darabont is working on, except that it is set in the 1950's.

My thoughts:
I love Indy but this movie whoch seemed fantastic five years ago has been delayed and postponned so many times I know I have lost interest in the movie. Plus it seems that George Lucas is hell bent on ruining the franchise, I will see it if it ever makes it the big screen but I will remain skeptical until that day.
Final Verdict: Maybe.

The Incredible Hulk

Release Date: June 13th, 2008
Starring: Louis Letterier
Director: Michael Helfant, Avi Arad, Kevin Feige

Dr. Bruce Banner continues to find a cure for his gamma-radiation induced affliction where anger causes him to become the giant, green-skinned Incredible Hulk.

My thoughts:
Again I find myself fairly alone in liking the first movie. I am such a sucker to cheesey comic book movies though and I can't help it. I would be more excited about a sequel had they got Eric Bana and Ang Lee back but alas new cast new director this time around. The three derector curse on this movie as well.
Final Verdict: Maybe.

The Dark Knight

Release Date: July 18th, 2008
Starring: Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine
Director: Christopher Nolan

Batman, Lt.Jim Gordon and D.A. Harvey Dent team up in an effort to stop the villainous Joker, a theatrical serial killer who lives for the sole purpose of causing harm to the citizens of Gotham, as well as The Dark knight. At the same time, Batman begins to uncover more of the corruption that is plaguing Gotham City, with the arrival of crime boss Salvatore Maroni.

It is being rumored that the role of the Joker has gone to Heath Ledger. I am not sure he is the right actor as I would have prefered Brody.

My thoughts:
Batman Begins gave a shot in the arm to the entire franchise after it had fallen on hard times. Probably the best Batman of all the movies so its hard to not be juiced about the sequel. We will get to now see them reinvent the most notrous Batman Villan in the Joker and possibly even Two Face. Here's hopping for a little Harley Quinn.
Final Verdict: Hell, Yes.

Sin City 2

Release Date: 2007
Starring: Jessica Alba, Devon Aoki, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Brittany Murphy, Clive Owen, Mickey Rourke
Director: Robert Rodriquez

It's one of those hot nights, dry and windless. The kind that makes people do sweaty, secret things. Dwight's thinking of all the ways he's screwed up and what he'd give for one clear chance to wipe the slate clean, to dig his way out of the numb gray hell that is his life. And he'd give anything. Just to cut loose. Just to feel the fire. One more time.

Dwight is experiencing some problems when him and his girlfriend, Ava Lord, get reunited, Nancy wants to avenge Hartigan's death by going after the Roarks, a man in the military gets mysteriously killed while trying to cook a rat, and we get to explore some details in Hartigan's past.

My thoughts:
Sin City was like watching a comic book leap off the pages and there is so much more story that can be told and that should be told, I don't know how you couldn't be excited about a sequel. Some of the more awesome characters like Marv may be gone but the movie still should have no let down.
Final Verdict: Hell, Yes!

John Rambo

Release Date: 2007
Starring: Sylvester Stallone, James Brolin, Kim Dickens, Linden Ashby, Jenna Boyd
Director: Sylvester Stallone

John Rambo, a seasoned retired solider now, has been living a life of peace and solitude with his wife and daughter for about 18 years. But when his daughter goes missing, Rambo returns to his old ways and goes on a hunt to find who is responsible for the kidnapping. The main bulk of the new film will deal with a Corporal by the name of William Keating searching for a U.S. Fugitive wrongly accused of war crimes against the America. In the fugitive's search to free his name and in Rambo's search to free his daughter, Rambo and this wrongfully accused man must fight together. The First was for himself, the Second was for his Country, the Third was for his Friend, this time it's for his family.

My thoughts:
Sly was once one of the biggest actors in all of Hollwood making movies on a record clip but after years and years of producing garbage he stopped becoming a blockbuster draw and just kind of mercifully went away. But it looks like he has renewed his contract with the devil and he's back to haunt us some more resurecting movies and character better left alone.
Final Verdict: A Resounding No!

Adventures in Babysitting

Release Date: 2008
Starring: Raven Symone
Director: None so far

Raven Symone (That's So Raven) is attached to star in the Walt Disney Pictures remake of Adventures in Babysitting, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The 1987 "Babysitting," which starred Elisabeth Shue, followed a high school senior who gets stuck baby-sitting a bunch of kids. The dull night is interrupted when she gets a call for help from a friend stuck downtown, leading her and the kids into a night of misadventures. The movie marked the directorial debut of Chris Columbus.

Lynda Obst, who produced the 1987 original with Debra Hill, is on board to produce the remake. David Stem and David Weiss wrote the script for the new "Babysitting." No director has been named yet.

My thoughts:
This clearly fits in the why god why category. I mean the original which is somewhat of an 80's cult classic does not need to be remade. Heck the movie isn't even 20 years old yet and this seems like another betrayal of Hollywood ruining every good movie ever made. And getting Raven Symone for pete's sake to star, the former Cosby show "I am cute so please still keep watching us girl" feels like a slap in the face.
Final Verdict: A Resounding No!

Jurassic Park 4

Release Date: Summer 2006
Starring: Keira Knightley (in talks), Sam Neill (Dr. Alan Grant); other cast not announced yet.
Director: Stephen Spielberg

There are no confirmed details about this sequel. One rumor is that it may involve the return of Nick Van Owen (Vaughn), although in what capacity isn't known. The last we saw his character, he was handling the Lost World problem in San Diego. If there's any truth to that, it suggests the story may next pick up, not on Isla Sorna, but on a much bigger island... North America (since this is what many fans would love to see, however, it's possible the whole Vince Vaughn thing could be wishful thinking, hoping to spur just such a film). (4/19/02) Anderson Jones of E! Online reports that the fourth movie may "pretend Jurassic Park III never happened." I wouldn't read that the wrong way... they probably just mean there would be no references to that film's events/characters.

My thoughts:
Why the first one was so good was because it was the first time CGI ever really true are socks off and came into its own. The idea was fun and to see it come to life even funner. But what now, the sequels were all pretty bad and the CGI doesn't blow us away anymore. Let sleeping dinosaurs lie.
Final Verdict: No.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Release Date: TBA
Starring: Mel Gibson
Director: George Miller

Well, this movie is now completely revitalized at a new studio (Fox rather than Universal) which seems to be as excited and gung-ho about the prospects ($104 million budget!) as Univeral seemed to be reluctant and skeptical. The title is to be "Fury Road", filming starts in May, and this is now primed to be one of the biggest tentpole releases of 2004.

My thoughts:
This movie now doesn't look like it will be made which is kind of a good thing. Most audiences nowdays won't evwn know who Mad Max is and seems Mel Gibson has lost his mind so it's better if the movie that even had a working title never sees the light of day.
Final Verdict: No.
