Captain America: The First Avenger · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes and Peggy Carter to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull.

At this point we have been dealt so many comic book movies that as an audience we have come to expect a lot from them. It seems every year two or three of the films are trotted out and some are successes and others failures. Captain America would fall under the category of a success as it has every element that you would except from a good comic book movie and it handles them to perfection. From a rich back story, to interesting characters that are well developed, to a good plot that draws you in...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. It all ends here.

Much like a fine wine the Harry Potter films have gotten much better with age. The acting has gotten better and more poignant as the actors have gotten better as they have gotten older. The effects have gotten better and much more spectacular. And the story has got deeper and more enthralling as they pull from the books which had the same effect. The story is darker and not as light as the first couple of books and movies which adds emotional depth as the characters must grieve for an innocence loss...

Horrible Bosses · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
For Nick, Kurt and Dale, the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable bosses into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con, the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers...permanently. There's only one problem: even the best laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.

I am sure everyone has had a boss at one time or other that they have hated or is just so horrible that they have made your working life miserable and that is the beauty of the film Horrible Bosses we can all relate. Sure most of us would never think to murder are bosses to make our lives better...

Transformers: Dark of the Moon · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
When a mysterious event from Earth's past erupts into the present day it threatens to bring a war to Earth so big that the Transformers alone will not be able to save us.

One should learn from ones failures and this holds very true for any movie franchise. Sadly Transformers seems intent on not learning from its downfalls and instead just repeating them over and over but in just smaller doses. Everything that was wrong with the second film rears its ugly head once more in the third installment. From really bad juvenile humor, annoying characters, bad accents on characters, horrible pacing, a bloated story and way too much focus on Shia Labeouf s character instead of where the focus should be the Transformers.

Bad Teacher · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Some teachers just don't give an F. For example, there's Elizabeth. She's foul-mouthed, ruthless, and inappropriate. She drinks, she gets high, and she can't wait to marry her meal ticket and get out of her bogus day job. When she's dumped by her fiance, she sets her plan in motion to win over a rich, handsome substitute - competing for his affections with an overly energetic colleague, Amy. When Elizabeth also finds herself fighting off the advances of a sarcastic, irreverent gym teacher, the consequences of her wild and outrageous schemes give her students, her coworkers, and even herself an education like no other.

The major flaw with Bad Teacher is the movie is way too tame by far. In an era of shock value and one upmanship you have to be shocking and Bad Teacher just isn’t that shocking.

Green Lantern · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

The major flaw with Green Lantern is not entirely its fault but rather the source material it had to draw from. That is the fact that the story and plot of the film are just so comical and ridiculous that you have a hard time being drawn in by the film.

Super 8 · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

Super 8 is a throwback film to those old more simpler times of science fiction and when our imaginations ran wild. Before cynicism and doubt and when childhood innocence reigned supreme. Before constant news coverage and twitter and facebook back when the world was as big as our imaginations would allow it to be.

X-men: First Class · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.

I went into X-Men First Class with very low expectations as the series seems to have fizzled quite a bit since the second film easily the best of the series. And while I am not sure if it is because I went in with such low expectations or because the film is just such a vast improvement over the last two installments I found myself really enjoying the film.

The Hangover Part II · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug travel to exotic Thailand for Stu's wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don't always go as planned. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but what happens in Bangkok can't even be imagined.

The great thing about the Hangover and its sequel is most of the craziness happens off screen with just hints at the madness that unfolded. This works well for three reasons the first being that it leaves it to our imaginations to fill in all the blanks making the craziness and madness of the night only as small as your imagination. Secondly it’s like watching a mystery unfold as you try and unravel all the pieces...

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
When Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with the enigmatic Angelica, he's not sure if it's love -- or if she's a ruthless con artist who's using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the "Queen Anne's Revenge," the ship of the legendary pirate Blackbeard, Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know whom to fear more: Blackbeard or Angelica, with whom he shares a mysterious past.

Somewhere along the way the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise completely lost its way. The first film was nothing short of a masterpiece and while the two sequels that followed it were fun and entertaining they just didn’t hold up to that first movie.

Sucker Punch · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
A young girl is institutionalized by her wicked stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the facility.

Sucker Punch is a gratuitous, fanboy geeky kind of film and there is nothing wrong with that. If you appreciate all those things and like a movie that has fun, is somewhat geeky, know it’s all of these and just runs with it Sucker Punch is a film that you will love. It makes no aspirations about being anything other than it is a fun , entertaining film that throws all the rules out and just mixes a real life story with a fantastical fantasy like world that only leaves you hints of what is happening in the real world.

Limitless · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Aspiring author Eddie Morra is suffering from chronic writer's block, but his life changes instantly when an old friend introduces him to NZT, a revolutionary new pharmaceutical that allows him to tap his full potential. With every synapse crackling, Eddie can recall everything he has ever read, seen or heard, learn any language in a day, comprehend complex equations and beguile anyone he meets - as long as he keeps taking the untested drug.

Limitless reminded me of that person you know that tries really hard to make you like them. They come on overly strong and do everything right as they try and convince you that you should like them. But somewhere down in your gut you are just not sure if you should like them or why you should like them.

The Green Hornet · Movie Review by Sirdizzy
By night, debonair newspaper publisher Britt Reid fights crime as a masked superhero known as The Green Hornet, dedicated to protecting the lives and rights of the city's citizens. Ever at his side is martial arts expert Kato.

The Green Hornet is your typical Hollywood action comic book film with a lot more flare and comedic approach. It tries to balance the action and comic book adventure with a very tongue in cheek and comedic approach and actually does a fair job at it too. Most comic book movies tend to take themselves very seriously so it is actually quite fun and entertaining to sit back and watch one that enjoys laughing at itself and its genre.

True Grit · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
14-year-old Mattie Ross's father has been shot in cold blood by the coward Tom Chaney. Enlisting the help of a trigger-happy, drunken U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn, she sets out with him -- over his objections -- to hunt down Chaney. They must pursue the criminal and find him before a Texas Ranger catches him and brings him back to Texas for the murder of another man.

The western is not dead most of the time it is just that sleeping giant you forget about tell it rears its big head. The reason the western was so popular for quite sometime is that it gave us grand stages and landscapes that we could mix in heroes and villains on with stories of good versus evil. But as tastes change that gritty and simplistic view became replaced with more modern and realistic CGI forgetting that sometimes mother nature still provides the best CGI.

Black Swan · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
In this psychological thriller set in the world of New York City ballet, Nina is a technically flawless dancer who finds herself locked in a web of competitive intrigue with a new rival at the company, the sensuously energetic Lily, as they vie for the lead role of The Swan in a new production.

The beauty of Black Swan is the insanity of the film. It immerses you into the lead characters mind and as she slowly grows crazier and more depraved so do you as the audience member as well. You feel her insanity creeping up on you as well and slowly sink into madness with her as well. Couple that with amazing performances by Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis and you have a great film that you can watch a dozen times and still not know what is happening at times.

The Fighter · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Life story of boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward and his trainer brother Dick Eklund, chronicling the brothers' early days on the rough streets of Lowell, Mass., through Eklund's battle with drugs and Ward's eventual world championship in London.

Sometimes movies are defined by their story or their effects and sometimes like in the Fighter they are defined by their acting and performances. What makes the fighter so good are the performances of its cast. It's hard to not see Christian Bale as a crack addled former boxer trying to hang onto his past or Mark Wahlberg as a boxer and family man that just can't seem to cut the strings that are binding him so tight even if they are slowly starting to suffocate him.

Best and Worst of 2010 · New Movie News by Sirdizzy
2010 was a hit or miss year as their was just a few really great films and only a few really bad films too. Most films for the year fell right in the middle as either good, mediocre and or Ok. I think it was the reason their was a box office slump as few movies knocked our socks off and cried to be seen multiple times. Throw in the gimmick of 3d which has gotten old really quick and has made going to the movies even more costly than before and many have resorted to the wait for video approach.

But the year did deliver several stellar and amazing films that had to be seen on the big screen and the foremost two of that bunch were Inception and Tron. These films needed to be seen on the large screen as they are not only beautiful but also deliver some jaw dropping effects at time that can only be fully apreciated on the large and if possible imax screen.

Golden Globe Winners 2010 · New Movie News by Sirdizzy
With the inclusion of 10 best picture nominees at the Academy Awards these last two years we might see more crossover from the Globes and the Oscars than normal especially in the Best Muscial and or Comedy category. That has always been the one category the Globes have nominated more popular films to recognize for the awards. Although this years nominees for that category are very strange with films like Red, Alice in Wonderland and the Tourist but the eventual winner was the more award friendly "The Kids are Alright."

Best Drama went to the Social Network which is a very good film but no where near as good as Inception or even the Fighter. The Social Network is getting a lot of praise and awards and will likely get a few more at the Oscars as well. The telecast was on the boring side and actually quite mean spirited with Ricky Gevasis as the host who wasn't funny at all.

TRON: Legacy · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Sam Flynn, the 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn, finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Father and son embark on a journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous than ever.

Tron is a movie that always seemed perfect for a sequel and a modern day telling. When the original movie came out it was the height of CGI when most people knew so very little about computers and everything in the film would have felt like science fiction to the average day moviegoer. This made Tron very farfetched and way ahead of itself but at the same time a fascinating idea that left you craving more. Fast forward twenty seven years and computers are a part of our everyday lives and the movie no longer seems so farfetched...

The third installment of the Narnia series felt the weakest to me and the most vanilla of the series so far. It almost seems as if they took a hohum approach to the film as if saying I guess we are making another Narnia movie lets see how fast we can get it done. Gone is any sense of wonder or childlike glee at the magical world of Narnia and all that is left to us is a film that just moves from one plot point to the next trying its best to make sure it gets enough of the book in...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Voldemort's power is growing stronger. He now has control over the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione decide to finish Dumbledore's work and find the rest of the Horcruxes to defeat the Dark Lord. But little hope remains for the Trio, and the rest of the Wizarding World, so everything they do must go as planned.

Much like the books I have felt the Harry Potter films have gotten better with each sequel and each progression of the story. That is partly due to the fact that the films have better source material to draw from but also because they seem to be better executed as well. The first installment of the last book the Deathly Hallows is easily the best Harry Potter film to date and makes the first movie almost seem a little childish. Just like our young heroes of the film the movies have grown up...

Due Date · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Peter Highman is an expectant first-time father whose wife's due date is a mere five days away. As Peter hurries to catch a flight home from Atlanta to be at her side for the birth, his best intentions go completely awry when a chance encounter with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay forces Peter to hitch a ride with Ethan--on what turns out to be a cross-country road trip that will ultimately destroy several cars, numerous friendships and Peter's last nerve.

Due date is exactly what you would expect it to be and that isn’t entirely a bad thing. The trailer or any TV spot you might have seen gives you a fairly good idea what to expect as Due Date is your typical odd couple kind of comedy. You have the buttoned down straight man and the other crazier wackier and somewhat delusional man paired up for a road trip where you know anything can and will happen.

Paranormal Activity 2 · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
After experiencing what they think are a series of "break-ins," a family sets up security cameras around their home, only to realize that the events unfolding before them are more sinister than they seem.

Where do you go in a sequel to a horror movie that was shot low budget, came out of nowhere and was very creepy and scary something very rare in the horror genre now days. What you do is create an entire new set of ghostly visits and demonic possession that relies on and capitalizes on what made the first movie so good and successful. From the low budget, to the slow build up going from creepy, to terrifying to horrific, to a very believable premise that can scare you. Paranormal Activity 2 starts where the first film left off and is nearly as good as the original and just as scary.

Life as We Know It · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
Opposite singles that have a strong mutual dislike for each other, are unexpectedly thrust together when their best friends die and leave their one-year-old daughter in their guardianship.

What can be said about Life as we Know It that could not be discerned from watching just thirty seconds of any of its trailers. The film is overly predictable, overly clichéd and like so many of its predecessors is hoping that it can pull at your heart strings just long enough to overlook so many of its flaws. For a film that is being packaged and sold as a comedy I think I might have only chuckled half a dozen times while watching and easily predicting the entire films plot well before they rolled out their over contrived plot twists.

The Social Network · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes FaceBook, a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history.

The Social Network tackles several tricky subjects and that is how to tell a true story that is mired in conspiracy and conflicting stories and how to make a computer geek and code based film something that the general masses will enjoy. And for the most part the film accomplishes both feats with relative ease and is quite entertaining to watch. It does help that there is so much drama and plot and conspiracy around the creation of something like Facebook...

The Town · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
As he plans his next job, a longtime thief tries to balance his feelings for a bank manager connected to one of his earlier heists, as well as the FBI agent looking to bring him and his crew down.

The Town crafts its characters and plots where even though it’s about a group of villains you actually have sympathy for the villains and want to cheer them on. The Town is a perfect example of the anti-hero kind of film where even though the movie is about bank robbers and crime you find yourself hoping the bad guys win and not the cops or the authorities. I love these kind of films because they turn the whole typical cliché storylines on their heads and you get to root for the bad guys and not the good guys for once.

Resident Evil: Afterlife · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice, continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead - and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

I think somewhere along the way the Resident Evil franchise decided to abandon the casual viewer and just target its core audience and demographic. This can be a good thing sometimes but more often than not it means that a series has gone as far as its going to go and all they are now doing is making gratuitous movies and obvious cash grabs.

Machete · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
After a violent shakedown from a notorious drug lord nearly kills him, Machete, a renegade Mexican Federale and tough-as-nails vigilante for justice, roams the streets of Texas, working as a day laborer. When Machete is hired by a crooked US Senator to execute a covert hit, Machete is double-crossed and forced to run from the cops and an endless stream of assassins. But what they don't know is that Machete is looking for them so he can settle the score.

Awesome in its absurdity. Machete may be the first movie ever made because of a fake trailer from another movie. Machete came about from the fake trailers that were used as an intermission between Robert Rodriguez’s and Quentin Tarantino’s separate films for Grindhouse. The trailers were made to be funny, ridiculous, absurd and done in that grindhouse film fashion of the 1970’s where everything was over the top and B movie quality.

Piranha 3D · New Movie Review by Sirdizzy
After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area's new razor-toothed residents.

Piranha 3D reminded me a lot of those cheesy 70’s and 80’s horror films that were made just to show a lot of blood and skin and just have fun doing it. I mean the movie is a remake of a 70’s film that was just a B movie ripoff of Jaws that personified the skin and blood horror genre and the remake fills those shoes very well. Piranha is just a fun cheesy film that you can’t take too seriously and that you just have to enjoy it for the ride that it is as you know almost everyone but the lead characters are going to croak in some ghastly way and that there will be plenty of nudity on the way.

An unmarried 40-year-old woman turns to a turkey baster in order to become pregnant. Seven years later, she reunites with her best friend, who has been living with a secret: he replaced her preferred sperm sample with his own.

I actually went into the Switch with very high hopes and an open mind as it looked like a film that had promise and despite its genre of the romantic comedy it was tied to it looked like it actually might be worth the viewing. I don’t want to say I was completely wrong or completely let down by the film but none of that promise was really met and all my high hopes were drowned in a movie that couldn’t muster much to interest me. The Switch simply put was boring, very boring as nothing really happens that you couldn’t see coming and there is nothing much there to interest you.
