Paul is about to be married and in the typical wedding tradition his friends hold him a bachelors party, which just might ruin everything. After the party Paul wakes up the next morning with a beautiful naked stranger in his bed with no recollection of what happened the night before. He naturally jumps to the conclusion that he has done the very worst and cheated on his fiancé his worst nightmare. Now he is caught in a web of deceit to try and cover up the deed but the only problem is that the stranger keeps appearing everywhere he goes. He soon finds out that this stranger is named Becky and that she is his fiancés cousin and she is coming to the wedding. She also has a former insane boyfriend that is a cop and now wants revenge on Paul for thinking he was with his ex-girlfriend. So now Paul must scramble to avoid letting his fiancé know what happened, avoid the ex-boyfriend, and hopefully get Becky to be silent all at the same time. But this is even more difficult then he could have imagined as one lie just leads to another lie as he spirals down a web of deceit that he can’t seem to stop.
The movie title may be slightly deceiving as this is more of a “chick flick” that can also make guys laugh. The movie seems to move from one scene to another that just keeps you in stitches and makes you smile, as Jason Lee must cover up one lie after another. There were several scenes where you couldn’t stop laughing as some of the lie Lee had to come up with our so outrageous you can’t help but laugh. Lee seems to be turning into an actor that will end up doing many movies like this, as he seems to just have the slightly askew romantic persona that makes him so well cast in movies like this. He seems to steal the show at times even though he does have some funny counterparts like Julia Stiles that produces a laugh or two herself. If there was anything wrong with the film it is that it just seemed unable to keep itself from falling into predictability and as the story neared its end it seemed to telegraph what was going to happen so that even the most non astute movie goer was not surprised or maybe felt fulfilled by the movies ending. What would have made the movie better was if it could have found away to give the movie a more non-predictable ending and maybe surprised the audience a little. Still all and all the movie is quite funny and a good movie to see if you are in the mood for a few laughs.
