Narcotics detectives and partners Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett have a unique relationship that always seems to be about to explode. Mike is a rich playboy that because of the trust fund he was left is a police officer more for the thrills than the money. While Marcus is the exact opposite he has a family that he needs to support and to him it is a job. This at times causes a rift between the two, even though they are the best of friends. They have been assigned to a high-tech task force investigating the flow of designer ecstasy that is flooding the streets of Miami. Their leads take them deep into a conspiracy involving a vicious Kingpin whose ambitions have ignited a bloody turf war between the Cubans and the Russian mafia. And everything seems to come to a boil between Mike and Marcus' and their working and personal relationships when Mike develops feelings for Marcus' sister Syd who is now working for the DEA and just involved in the drug case as they are. So unless they can separate the personal from the professional, the case and Syd's life may be in danger. So the two go deep under cover right into the mafias world investigating a mortuary and getting in one gunfight after another as the two try and save the day one more time and make the streets of Miami safe again.

I am probably too forgiving when it comes to popcorn movies that are high-octane, action packed adventure rides. That part of me that just loves to be thrilled to be chilled and to be entertained lets me look past a lot of the bad things in such movies. For example it seems every single action movie that involves any type of firearm since the release of 1999’s the Matrix feels at some point it has to have some slow motion bullet time action. Why is this? This is useless, this is senseless and it has been done to death, and Bad Boys II does it not once but twice. I can overlook it although it was silly, and it was stupid, simply because the movie entertained me. Bad Boys was a knockoff in 1995 trying to capture the Lethal Weapon feel using black actors, yet it was funny, it was charming and most of all it was entertaining. And Bad Boys II does not fail to capture these things that made the original so good. The movie is louder, it is gorier, there is more skin, there is more bullets flying around, more explosions and most of all it is funnier then its predecessor. What makes the movie is not the action, it is not the adventure, but it is the comedy. The movie is a laugh out riot at times and the chemistry of Lawrence and Smith is even better then the original as they are funnier then they have been in a long time. They made the movie enjoyable, they made the movie entertaining they made the movie so much fun to watch and they may have saved the movie from Michael Bay. I hate to say it but Michael Bay is a hack, I have never seen one director so blatantly and boldly steal from so many movies rather then come up with original content. The movie does get gratuitous at times, it does get unnecessary at times, it does drag on too long at times but it does not fail to entertain and for that I forgive it all its transgressions and call it a must see.
