In California's San Fernando Valley, Isabel (Nicole Kidman) is trying to reinvent herself. A naive, good-natured witch, she's determined to give up her supernatural powers and lead a "normal" life. At the same time across town, Jack Wyatt (Will Ferrell), a tall, charming actor, is trying to get his career back on track. He sets his sights on an updated version of the beloved 1960s situation comedy Bewitched, reconceived as a starring vehicle for himself in the role of the mere-mortal Darrin. Fate steps in when Jack accidentally runs into Isabel. He's immediately attracted to her and her nose, which bears an uncanny resemblance to the nose of Elizabeth Montgomery, who played Samantha in the original series. He becomes convinced Isabel could play Samantha in his new series. Isabel is also taken with Jack, seeing him as the quintessential mortal man with whom she can settle down and lead the normal life she desires. It turns out they're both right--but in ways neither of them ever imagined.

The movie asks quite a few questions, when is the idea of a remake so bad that you shouldn’t even consider it, how bad can you cast the stars of such said remake and how bored can you make your audience during the course of a movie. The movie is just that boring, trite, inane and stupid. It had little redeeming qualities and I can’t think of any moment in the entire movie where I was laughing or even entertained. The premise to the original Bewitched was fun and unique, of a witch trying to live a normal life and give up magic. The premise to the remake was stupid and silly, of a TV star trying to retool the TV show as he ends up getting involved with a real witch much like the TV show. The story is so trite at that point I don’t think there was anything you could have done to keep the movie from being the turkey it turned out to be. The movie must have realized at some point that it wasn’t any good because they just kept trying and trying and trying to get you interested in the movie which only led me to the thought of is this movie ever going to end.

Casting wise I doubt you could have done a worse job than what they managed to do. Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell have no chemistry and don’t fit their roles at all, you can’t even begin to see them as Darrin and Samantha. I have lost all faith in Nicole Kidman as an actress I am having a hard time remembering the last time she did a decent job in a movie as she has thrown out one piece of crap after another lately. She seemed to be a better actress than this but she lately seems like she is just reading lines and trying to be cute for the camera and it just ends up hurting the movie. Will Ferrell is what you would call an over actor, everything he does is overacting and its ok with films like Old School and Elf but it fails miserably with movies like this when he needs to show more range and versatility. The movie was a train wreck start to finish and I found myself bored to tears throughout the entire movie.

I don’t know what is worst, that they wasted so much money making this turkey or that the people who go to see it are wasting even more money on it. There has to be a better way to spend money than on churning out crappy movies, like trying to fix the social security problem or bringing our troops home from Iraq. But that’s the capitalism of our society, almost all movies produced make money, whether it is on home video or in the theatres. And as long as there is a way to make money even on really bad movies, Hollywood will continue to do so. So save the money you might have spent on seeing this film and donate it to a charity, the world will be a better place if you do so.
