The movie is about an aspiring song writer Violet from a small town in New Jersey who all her life has wanted nothing more then to write music and be able sit in the dark and listen to some star sing her songs. To achieve that goal she has decided to move to New York City and try and hit it big. But when she arrives in the big city she finds out it is not as easy as she thought it would be. Struggling for money and not wanting to admit defeat she looks for a job and finds one in the most unlikely of places at a bar called Coyote Ugly. There the girls dance on the counters to entertain the unruly crowds and make a fair living at doing so. Her biggest problem is the severe stage fright she gets when she tries to sing her own song. But with the help of new beau in her life she hopes to make it big and to be able to succeed at doing what she loves.
This movie does itself a great injustice with its trailer of sexy women dancing on the bar tops to entice teenage boys instead of showing many of the funny moments and really good character development the movie has. The movie has a lot more to offer then just a few scantily clad women working in a bar, althpugh it does offer this quite a lot in the movie and very freely at times. The movie is full of laughs and does a really good job developing the main character Violet who takes a job at the bar Coyote Ugly. Piper Perabo who plays violet does a good job acting and makes ya care for her character and what will happen to her. The movie is fast paced with many laughs and even involves a little romance although the romance can become a little cheesy at time. The soundtrack to this movie is awesome and the music is played throughout. It’s the music at times that seems to make the movie as it is hard to not get involved as the beat just seems to take a hold of you. The soundtrack alone raises the movie from what could have been a subpar movie. The movie does fall into the pitfall though if being to overly predictable in the end though. Well worth the price of admission for all the laughs, the soundtrack, and yes even the scantily clad women dancing on top of a bar.
