Comic book movies are quickly becoming the new action movies of the 21st century. Spurred by the success of X-men in 2000 and last years Spiderman this year three comic book movies all by Marvel will come to the big screen. But this movie is not like its two Marvel predecessors as it is a much darker and more mature movie. Although the movie officially carried a PG-13 rating the movie had to be edited twice to get it down from its original R rating. That being said this movie is easily on caliber with Spiderman and might even be a better movie. Last years success used a lot of the similar plot lines and action to progress its story but most of its love scenes came off as cheesy and corny at times taking away from the movie. Daredevil is full of its own love and romance but they are way better done and not so tedious. Affleck and Garner make the perfect couple in the movie as Matt and Electra and had great chemistry including their own rain soaked kiss. The action is superb as the actors studied for months to perfect their martial arts skills and the movie moves from one fight scene to the next with relative ease. This keeps the tempo of the movie going really well once the movie gets past its character development stages. If something could be said about the movie it would be those development stages, as they seem slow in comparison to the rest of the movie and you can’t wait for the action to get going. The acting while not great was very good. Affleck had trouble at times appearing to be blind but pulls it off most of the time with a somewhat believable performance. Garner is more of a sex appeal for the young boys and does not really get to stretch herself to her acting limits like they should have let her. But its Colin Farrell who steals the movie as the villain Bullseye. At times his over the top acting seemed to fit the mood of the movie so well you could not but be entranced by his character. And while the movie took some liberties like the fact that the King Pin is white in the comics this is a very accurate depiction of the mood and feel of the comic, which is darker, and more mature then Marvel’s mainstream comics. The movie is an action packed thrill ride mixed in with just enough romance for the ladies. A definite must see.
