Matilda was a sweet old lady that loved children so much that every time they lost a tooth she would give them a gold coin. But one night two children of the town Darkness Falls do not return and the instantly blame the disfigured Matilda. They hang her in the light and set her body on fire but as she is dying she sets a curse on the town that the children the day they lose their last baby tooth she will come to kill them for revenge for the crime she did not commit. A hundred and fifty year later a young boy watches his mother get murdered and is blamed for the crime. Many think he is crazy as he develops a fear for the darkness and has night terrors. Twelve years later he must return home to try and help out an old childhood friend who’s brother has seen Matilda. But Matilda is still out to get him because he saw her face twelve years earlier and he must try and combat her evil before he and the young boy are killed too.

This is your typical horror movie that’s story is very hackneyed at times. The reason a sweet lady who once was beloved by all the children of a town would decided to take revenge against children is almost ludicrous at times as they never really make her seem that sweet to begin with. They don’t even try to escape the very weak story and the predictability of all the other horror movies exactly like it made in the past. Instead they try and create an aura of fear and jumpiness that is typical of such movies like this. The movie does do a fair job at making you jittery and maybe even leaving your seat for a moment or two but it also fails at doing it as many times as it succeeds. Many of the scary parts of the movie were met with laughter and giggles as we might be too desensitized as a society and a hundreds movies like this later. Chaney Klay who plays the main role of the movie is probably the savior of the movie as well. His well portrayed part is a light in a movie that sometimes fails to do more than throw the typical scene that is suppose to make you jump out of your scene at you. M Night Shaylman who has proven he is the master of suspense does a better job by showing less and hyping up the suspense more. This movie tries to do that a little but cannot help showing too much as the rest of the story and plot are too weak to support the movie by itself. Klay’s portrayal and the sometimes interesting story does make the movie good at times but it seems to fail at trying to escape the genre it put itself into and that has been done much better by others.
