Peter La Fluer is not the most responsible of people, as he rarely pays his bills on time or keeps up with all the paperwork he needs to do. Peter is the owner of a small local gym called Average Joes, where the misfits come to work out and rarely pay their bills too. But this is about to come to haunt Peter because he has become delinquent on his mortgage of his gym and the owner of a rival gym White Goodman has purchased the mortgage and when it defaults he plans to tear down the gym to make it into a parking lot for his own gym Global Gym. Global Gym is entirely different from Average Joes as they only want the prettiest and most fit clientele and not the freaks that frequent Joe’s. So now this misfit group have 30 days to come up with $50,000 or lose what has become to them a second home. That is when they come up with the bright idea of joining a dodgeball tournament where the grand prize is $50,000. But White and is cronies are not about to let these misfits get away with their scheme and he as also entered his own team into the competition, a team of muscular behemoths. So now Peter and his crew must survive the most vicious of sports and rivals if they wish to keep their home away from home.
There is one pure and simple fact in Hollywood and that is that Ben Stiller is a hack and has no discernable acting talent whatsoever. For some reason he thinks by slapping on a stupid mustache and a silly hairdo that he has put in a great comedic performance. I am afraid to tell you this Ben but that’s called costuming, really bad costuming and not acting, not even really horrible acting which at times is all you seem capable of. Stiller has no range and all his characters are rehashes of past characters and his portrayal is a rehash from one of the worst movies ever made Zoolander. And it’s a shame they felt they needed to cast a hack in an otherwise brilliant and hilarious movie. Once you balance out Stiller’s terrible and truly unfunny performance with the hilarity of the movie, the movie turns from great to mediocre. When Stiller was off the screen the movie was funny and a delight, when he was on the screen it was like watching a train wreck as Stiller played the most idiotic and clichéd performance of his career. This character wasn’t funny in Zoolander a terrible movie and all it did was drag down a funny movie. The other problem with the movie is Vince Vaughn who just seemed like he could walk thru the movie without actually making any effort at all. It’s almost like he’s asleep at times, saying his lines in a sleep walk. Yes, the movie has some of the more hilarious moments at times, but on the other hand it also has some of the lamest moments that just make you cringe. Mediocre and ruined by a hack of an actor.
