Set in present day, the story follows the adventures of "good old boy" cousins, Bo (Seann William Scott) and Luke (Johnny Knoxville) Duke, who with the help of their eye-catching cousin Daisy (Jessica Simpson) and moonshine running Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson), try and save the family farm from being destroyed by Hazzard County's corrupt commissioner Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds). Their efforts constantly find the "Duke Boys" eluding authorities in "The General Lee," their famed 1969 orange Dodge Charger that keeps them one step ahead of the dimwitted antics of the small southern town's Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane (M.C. Gainey).

If I have to explain to you why this movie is fun, then you don’t deserve to watch it. The movie is pointless and proud of it and that’s why it doesn’t fail to live up to the much beloved TV show. Fast cars, hot women, silly jokes, insane action sequences set to the all familiar voice over and what you end up having is a fun, silly entertaining movie. The plot is simple, the acting even more so, the action sequences are ridiculous at times but in the end the movie delivers with a movie that had me grinning ear to ear throughout most of the movie. Do you need to see the TV show to like the movie, no but it helps. It also helps if you leave your brain at the door because just like the TV show the movie is a remake of the movie isn’t meant to be anything more than a fast paced action movie mixed with one liners and scantily clad women all the while entertaining you and making you glad you shelled out your money to see it.

If anything made me cautious coming into the movie about how good or bad it was going to be it was their choice of actors for the roles. They could have gone two ways with a more somber and serious tone like the TV series or how they ended up going with a slapstick comedy duo. And as far as slapstick comedy goes I doubt you could find better choices for Bo and Luke Duke in Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott. And the more I thought about it I came to realize that a serious tone wouldn’t have worked but the slapstick approach did and did so very well. I think both Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott are fine comedic actors and as long as they don’t get to far out of their element they always seem to deliver enjoyable movies. Then there is Jessica Simpson and if you can get past the blonde locks you see how perfect she was for the role. Daisy Duke is and was the epitome of the hot girl leaning on a hot rod car and you won’t find many actresses who could have filled out those Daisy Dukes any better. The movie was fun, it was silly and it was very entertaining.

I don’t know if the scene with the General Lee and the people throwing a fit about the confederate flag on its roof was a jab at all the people who threw a fit because they decided to keep it in the movie but all the same I found it perfectly fitting. Our society is become way too politically correct almost to maddening degrees and people need to lighten up a bit. The confederate flag only represents what you want it to represent and in the movie it was a tribute to the TV series and a time when people didn’t get up in arms over the smallest stupidest thing. For most Southerners the Confederate flag is a symbol of pride for their southern heritage and not meant as insult, lighten up America.
