The year is 1986 and two strangers who have a lot of common are about to meet. These strangers appear to be mentally retarded or at least mentally challenged will soon become fast friends, as it seems they are two of a kind and perfect for each other. Harry and Lloyd are both entering high school where Lloyd’s father is the janitor and where Harry has been home schooled because he was odd and probably not smart enough to be in public schools. But they are about to enter an adventure neither planned for or could have expected. The principal at their school is a corrupt man who is planning a way to steal a ton of the schools money before exiting town with his love interest the lunch lady. The plan is that there is a new scholarship program that any school with a special needs class will receive $100,000 and so the principal comes up with the idea of making a fake class then stealing the money and Harry and Lloyd are the perfect patsies to help him pull off the scheme. But what the principal did not plan for was the sheer utter idiocy of his two patsies and their madcap and foolish ways could ruin everything and him as well as a young reporter Jessica is trying to find out about all his money stealing schemes and bust him for them. So the principal must battle the idiocy of his patsies before its too late and the cat is let out of the bag.
After seeing this movie I completely understand why Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels told them no to a sequel as it could have been their best career moves to date. While the original is a classic and quite funny as it was well played and took place before a lot of the gross out movies that it helped pioneer, this movie is utter garbage. Its hard to not find some gem of good in every movie you see and this movie pushed those boundaries. The movie did make me laugh twice and I have to admit those scenes had somewhat of the humor of the first movie but the rest of the movie is utter and completely a waste of time. The actors they picked to play the parts of a younger Harry and Lloyd failed miserably at capturing Carrey and Daniels parts that they made almost legendary. They never seemed to fit nor have any comedic timing as the movie just seemed to take a funny premise that in the years since it was made has been abused and slap together one idiotic scene after another that isn’t funny but instead proof that some movies should never ever have a sequel or in this case a prequel. I began to wonder if Carrey and Daniels could have saved this movie had they been cast and I truly doubt they could have, and while they had such perfect chemistry that the new actors lacked the script, the plot, and the idea for this movie are just so bad that its like watching a train wreck where you cannot turn away from the atrocity. Maybe some of the younger crowds that enjoy these gross out, stupid movies will like this movie but in my opinion those who see it do walk away dumber and out some money.
