In a revenge scheme to get back at the arrogant Emperor Yzma plans to poison him and take his place as ruler. But when her idiot assistant Gronk mixes up the potions instead of killing him he is transformed into a llama. So Yzma orders Gronk to finish off the job and dispose of the emperor but when he messes that up too Kuzco finds himself stranded in the jungle, Kuzco's only chance to get back home and reclaim the high life rests with a good-hearted peasant named Pacha. Kuzco's perfect world becomes a perfect mess as this most unlikely duo must deal with hair-raising dangers, wild comic predicaments, and most horrifying of all each other as they race to return Kuzco to the throne before Yzma tracks them down and finishes him off and takes the throne for herself.

Yes, the movie is your predictable Disney flick from the likeable idiotic evil side kick to the very predictable happy ending but what makes the movie more special then most of the movies Disney churns out is its timing and hilarity. While the movie cannot escape Disney’s like of using everything and anything that is predictable and their like of cliques the movie actually escapes from the normal Disney flick that has been so dumbed down it is hard to watch. This is one of those kids/family movies that actually works on two levels where a more mature and adult audience can also enjoy the film as it has tons of little side jokes and humorous situations that many kids might miss out on. It is refreshing to see a movie where everyone who sees it from young children to adults can laugh and enjoy the ride, as the movie was both funny and cute. David Spade and John Goodman voice the roles of their characters very well and seem to have great chemistry and play off each other very well. While the animation is slightly crude to a world that is becoming more and more enchanted with computer animation the movie is one of those rare treats of old fashioned animation that is dieing out very slowly. It’s not the animation that makes this movie though but instead the good plot, the fun characters, and the humorous script. Maybe some of the computer animated movies should keep these things in mind instead of trying to blow us away with the animation but instead blow us away with a good story that can make us laugh as well as b highly entertained.
