This is the story of a guy, Joel who discovers that his long-time girlfriend, Clementine has undergone a psychiatrist's experimental procedure in which all of her memory of Joel is removed, after the couple has tried for years to get their relationship working fluidly. Frustrated by the idea of still being in love with a woman who doesn't remember their time together, Joel agrees to undergo the procedure as well, to erase his memories of Clementine. The film, which takes place mostly within Joel's mind, follows his memories of Clementine backwards in time as each recent memory is replaced, and the procedure then goes on to the previous one, which is likewise seen, and then erased. Once the process starts, however, Joel realizes he doesn't really want to forget Clementine, so he starts smuggling her away into parts of his memory where she doesn't belong in hopes that they cannot find the memories of her and destroy them. But as he does this he begins to alter other things about his memories as well. But Joel hopes that by doing so he will have some memory of her and be able to save something of their lives together before they all become destroyed and all the good things as well as the bad no longer exist.
This has to be one of the most messed up and warped movies I have ever seen and at the same time it has to be one of the best movies I have ever seen. I absolutely loved this movie it was one of the most glorious looks at relationships and in such a unique way that it was just mind blowing. The movies premise has to be one of the most ingenious that I have ever seen as it allows for the characters to travel back through time and look at their relationship and their love in an entirely new way and see what they had lost on the way. It also proves that Jim Carrey can be an incredible actor if you give him the chance as we have seen glimpses of this in the past but this is the first time that I think he has truly let us see how much he has grown over the years in his acting abilities. He is easily deserving an Oscar nomination for his performance, as it is the best I have seen this year or even last year for that matter. Kate Winslet also put in the best performance I have ever seen her in as well. But its not the acting that made this movie so incredible but rather the story which was breath taking the acting was just a little extra icing on the cake. I was so completely and totally enthralled by this movie it is like I was almost apart of the movie as you couldn’t help but be drawn in and totally in love with the amazement of this movie. I would highly recommend this movie to everyone as it is incredible and a movie you will walk away from being changed.
