Scott Thomas has his entire life plotted out, from where he will go to college to his relationship with his girlfriend Fiona. That’s why on his graduation night from High School Fiona wants to break up with him as she finds him too predictable. But she also has a secret to tell him she has been cheating on him for years. Scotty crushed turns to his German pen pal friend that he has been using to help him get an "A" in German (by translating his homework over the Internet) for years. That is when he suggests that they meet, Scotty’s reaction is to freak out, thinking that "Mieke" is a) a guy and b) some sort of older sexual stalker, looking for a young boyfriend. When he discovers to his delight that his pen pal is actually a cute fraulein he also discovers it may be too late for him because he said some harsh words to her right before she blocked his email address. That is when he gets a great idea with the help of his best friend, Cooper, to try and con his summer internship boss into thinking he's still in America, fly to Europe, accompanied by twins Jenny and Jamie, after graduation to meet her, in an exciting and sometimes wacky trip across Europe (London to Paris to Amsterdam), and finally heading for Berlin in hopes of reconciling with her and winning the heart of the girl he thinks might be the one before it is too late.
In the tradition of movies like Porky’s and Animal House, Hollywood will always have room for another will and silly movie involving hot women and endless amounts of idiocy. But unlike the previous movies, Eurotrip lacks the originality and the ability to rise above all its competition to be anything more than a silly way to spend 90 minutes. There are moments where you will laugh and truly be entertained but there are also a number of moments where you will be bored as the movie borrows a number of scenes from movies that did it better and with more panache. The movie follows some of the sillier moments that we have seen time and time again and have lost their comedic humor. But on the other hand there are moments that the movie does find some originality and you cannot help but laugh and wish the rest of the movie had followed that formula. Two moments come to mind and that is the robot scene in Paris that had me almost rolling as it incorporated one of the funniest Matrix rip offs I have ever seen. And secondly the song Scotty Doesn’t Know just cracked me up for some reason. I can see this movie easily getting some backlash from some European countries as they stereotyped quite a few of them in good fun (the British seemed to get the worst of it). The movie had an opportunity to be great and a classic and did achieve it at times but for the most part the movie was just mediocre and a blatant rip off. The movie calls Scotty its main character predictable which is ironic because the movie is also very predictable.
