George Simmons is a famous stand-up comedian who learns that he has a terminal illness and less than a year to live. When, he meets Ira, a struggling comedian at a comedy club where both the comedians are performing, George hires Ira to be his personal assistant and opening act at his performances. The two forge a close friendship as George helps Ira with his career and Ira helps George find closure in his legacy. However, when George learns that his disease has gone into remission and an ex-girlfriend re-enters his life, he's inspired to reevaluate what is important to him and what truly gives meaning to his life.

I honestly do not know what the film makers and screen writers of this film were thinking. Funny People is a dramedy, half comedy and half drama so maybe they thought that it should have a drama like running time but Funny People is easily forty five minutes too long. There is a point in the middle of the film where the movie just completely bogs down and you find yourself nearly bored out of your mind waiting for the film to finally get back on track. They spend so much time at Adam Sandler’s exes house that almost all the good parts and comedic moments that the first half of the movie delivered are lost in how boring and tedious the film becomes. This film needed an editor to take a hold of the project and cut out all the fat that or decide if the movie wanted to be a drama or if it wanted to be a comedy.

Funny People is hilarious at times and will make you laugh but the drama of the whole film itself is laughable as well. Maybe they have seen recent films by other comedians recently that tried to mix these two genres and thought they would have a go at it as well but honestly Adam Sandler isn’t as fitted for trying on these kind of roles like some of his counterparts like Jim Carrey. Funny People falls into two categories a really funny movie that will make you laugh and a drama that will bore you to tears and that will never really make you feel for its characters. If they had just stuck with the first genre of a comedy this movie would have actually been pretty good instead of a film that ended up being half boring and half funny.

Jonah Hill simply put needs to go away and stay away from films. He is one of those actors that I have grown so weary of playing the same role over and over that anytime he is in a movie his mere presence threatens to ruin the movie. Seth Rogen is also another actor I am growing weary of but he at least has some acting chops and holds his on in the film. Judd Apatow just needs to find a different cast of actors for his movies because by parading out the same characters over and over he is slowly loosing his golden touch he once had.
