Larry Gigli is a hit man in Los Angeles eternally looking for the big score. But he is not happy with his life as he sees it as unclean and this has made him distance himself from everyone including his own mother. He has a heart and does not like what he does, that is why of late he has fallen out of graces with is employer Louis who is beginning to see him as somewhat of a screw up. But Louis has the biggest job of late for Larry and he must once again entrust this important task to him. A friend of Louis’ is being prosecuted by the federal government and faces life in prison, something Louis cannot allow to happen. So his latest scheme is to kidnap the mentally challenged brother of a powerful district attorney and hold him tell he can get all charges dropped against him. After successfully getting the brother to his seedy apartment, Gigli finds out much Louis distrusts him when Ricki arrives to make sure he does not screw the scam up. But Larry soon finds out that Ricki is the opposite of everything he thinks a contractor should be much less the fact that she is a beautiful woman who just happens to be a lesbian to boot. Now Larry must team up with her or find himself in deeper trouble than he was before the whole operation began. But this will prove to be easier said than done, as Larry cannot get over his attraction of Ricki who has made it very clear she has absolutely no interest in him.

I am having a really hard time understanding why most critics hated this movie and thought it was so bad. The movie is no masterpiece by any means but it does tell a heartening story that is really well acted and done at times. The movie if it has any major fault is the dialogue which is so horrendous at times you can not help but shutter at the amazing level of hideousness it manages to accomplish. But this would be accredited to the writing staff that really should never be allowed to write a screenplay again as long as they live. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez did not ruin this movie, in fact if anything they seemed to save it at times as they did have some chemistry that just seemed to flow at times keeping you interested in the story despite the incredibly bad dialogue. But if anyone steals the show it would be Justin Bartha who plays Dave and does an amazing job as the mentally challenged kidnapee as he brings heart and levity to the story that would have been missing otherwise. Do not be fooled by the critics who seem to think taking pot shots at this movie is the vogue thing, while the movie is mediocre at best it is nowhere near the worst movie of the year as dozens of other movies are ten times worse. If Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez had not been the stars of this movie it would have fallen off the radar and would have been only remembered as a failed movie that could have accomplished so much more. See it to clarify your thoughts and gain an objective opinion for yourself not driven by the media and silly critics like myself.
