You can’t trust someone when they think your crazy. When Chloe utters these words to Miranda her criminal psychologist, Miranda does not think much of it, as she truly believes Chloe is out of her mind and inventing things in her lunacy. But the tables are about to be turned on Miranda, as she will find herself on the other side of the glass with everyone thinking she has gone stark raving mad. It all happens on her way home after seeing Chloe as she almost runs over a girl standing in the middle of a bridge. But when she sees the girls face she blacks out and remembers nothing. When she awakens to find herself a patient in the very same mental institution in which she works, she finds out that she is their for the her husband a crime she has no memory of but one that she's still accused of committing. But things are about to take an even stranger turn as she begins to think she is seeing ghosts and hearing the voice of the dead girl she almost hit. As she tries to regain her memory and convince her coworkers of her innocence, the vengeful spirit uses her as an earthly pawn to try and solve a crime. This only further convinces all involved of both her guilt and her increasingly stead descent into madness and delusion as she can no longer be trusted but Miranda must find away to free herself before all the madness and insanity becomes a reality she can not escape.
Some movies just take your breath away and completely blow you away in a manner you would have never guessed was possible, Gothika is one of those movies. The movie is so stunning in its suspense that you are literally holding your breath at times as you can not wait to see how the story unfolds and to where this amazing movie is taking you. You are completely and totally enthralled drawn in by the story, the acting and all the thrills that just seem to emanate out of the screen. The movie is one of those movies even after you have seen it and know how it ends you crave to see over and over as it is that good. I have to say Halle Berry is becoming one of my favorite actress in Hollywood as she is so versatile and completely captures any roll or movie she is in. She steals the show in this movie as her incredible acting ability makes you so completely enamored with the movie and the story that you cannot but help but be amazed by her. The movie even manages to capture some of the great suspenseful moments of more classic thrillers as the movie does not always rely on blood and gore to propel the fear. I felt the hair stand up on end on numerous cases as the movie did such a good job of thrilling me. I would recommend this movie for everyone despite its R rating as it is that good.
