'The Incredibles' follows the adventures of a family of former superheroes rediscovering the true source of their powers - in one another. Once one of the world's top masked crimefighters, Bob Parr (AKA Mr. Incredible) fought evil and saved lives on a daily basis. But fifteen years later, he and his wife Helen (a famous former superhero in her own right) have been forced to take on civilian identities and retreat to the suburbs. It was because of their tendency to cause such destruction while saving lives that led the public to eventually shun them and result in their early retirements. Today they live as mere mortals and lead all-too-ordinary lives with their children... who go out of their way to appear "normal." As a clock-punching insurance man, the only thing Bob fights these days is boredom and a bulging waistline. Itching for action, the sidelined superhero gets his chance when a mysterious communication summons him to a remote island for a topsecret assignment. Now, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance, the family must come together and once again find the fantastic in their family life.
This is what I have come to expect out of a Pixar film, incredible visual stimulation by amazing computer generated images as well as a rich in-depth story that is creative and original and the Incredibles delivers on both. It’s also the reason I was disappointed in Finding Nemo as while the imagery was what you would expect the story was lacking but with the Incredibles Pixar seems to have fixed that problem. The story is rich and full, as it is filled with hundreds of little tidbits that I am sure will take dozens of viewing to catch them all, and the movie is worth dozens of viewings. You can tell the storywriters spent much of a misspent youth reading comics and reveling in the whole super hero trend as the movie captures the entire superhero genre perfectly.
This movie has everything, tons of action, plenty of laughs and works well on two levels, one for the kids and one for the adults. I always appreciate when a movie keeps its potential older audience members in mind and does not dumb down their movies for the kids sake, it also makes the movie stand the test of time better. Pixar has established themselves as the kings of animation and the movie only brings more proof how good they are. It was also fun to see a movie where all the main characters were human based, the first for a Pixar movie.
I don’t know about you but I will be so glad when Pixar leaves Disney next year and does not have the tarnished Disney name plagued over their movies like a stain. This is not a Disney movie; one of the things that make it so great as well as all the other Pixar films is all the time and care that they put into their movies, which result in amazing movies. With Disney’s production values down to how fast can we get it out the door no matter how crappy it is, it is refreshing to see a company take pride in their work and produce such stellar films. This is what Walt Disney did when he was alive and the reason he is probably rolling in his grave right now. The Incredible’s is the best Pixar film since Toy Story 2, if not better and the best they have ever produced. This movie is a must see for everyone!
