Internationally famous oceanographer Steve Zissou and his crew -- Team Zissou -- set sail on an expedition to hunt down the mysterious, elusive, possibly non-existant Jaguar Shark that killed Zissou's partner during the documentary filming of their latest adventure. They are joined on their voyage by a young airline co-pilot who may or may not be Zissou's son a beautiful journalist assigned to write a profile of Zissou, and Zissou's estranged wife and co-producer, Eleanor. They face overwhelming complications including pirates, kidnapping, and bankruptcy. As the down his luck explore tries to get his life and film making career back on track all the while trying to avenge a friends death and deal with the possibility of having a thirty year old son.

I have a hard time finding anything good to say about this movie, as I found it dull and dreary. This is the kind of movie that the critics tell you that you should love, but I just find it hard to like a film with little to no action and a story that is very boring. I mean what is the point of the movie, Steve Zissou is a down on his luck documentary maker hunting down a shark that his friend that ends with one of the stupidest scenes I have ever seen in my life. The movie felt like an art house or coffee house piece where they tell you its good and you are not suppose to question it because if you did you just don’t understand what they were trying to do. This is a cope out to me when you break down seeing a movie it comes down to the most important thing being was it enjoyable, the movie was not.

I don’t know what’s happened to Bill Murray he use you to be one of the funniest actors in Hollywood now instead he has just tied himself to these quirky roles in what looks like nothing more than the pursuit of an Oscar. It is like he lost all the humor that made him so great in films like Caddyshack and Groundhog Day just so he could get that little statuette, and if in getting it, he becomes funny again and returns to his roots I am all for him winning it even in a movie that I did not like. Owen Wilson is an actor that just is not funny anymore he had a humorous little thing going with Jackie Chan but every movie he does just makes it more and more obvious that he just isn’t funny. Life Aquatic is an over rater movie that is neither funny nor enjoyable yet all the critics will tell you that you are suppose to love it, you are just better off staying away.
