New Mexico in the 1880’s was a wild place that saw many struggle happen in its land from fights between the Indians and the pioneers, to the ever closeness of the Mexican border. But despite all this Maggie has tried to make a life for herself and her two girls by having her own ranch and working as the local healer. Her life isn’t perfect and she has had a trouble past but she does the best she can. That is why when her long estranged father who left her when she was a child shows up she is not only surprised but not that willing to let him back into her life. Her father though has returned home in hopes of making peace decades with her after abandoning her to go live with the Apaches, only to find that she has no forgiveness or affection to give him. But, when her daughter, Lily is kidnapped by a band of outlaw Army deserters (who also murdered Maggie's companion and boyfriend Brake it appears that she will need her father after all. Because he appears the only man that is capable of tracking the Apaches because of once living and being taught by them. So Maggie makes a temporary truce with her father so he will help her track her daughter and try to rescue her before it is too late. But the journey will not be easy as the land is treacherous and the Apaches are led by a mysterious shaman who appears to have many abilities some of the supernatural kind that could cause them nothing but trouble.

This is the type of the movie that is very slow to get going but when it finally does it manages to be a thrilling and wonderful movie that completely draws you in. They do spend a little too much time in the beginning of the movie introducing the characters and while it does help later on you almost feel like saying get to the plot of the movie already. If you know anything about the movie before you come in you know that someone goes missing and it will be up to Tommy Lee Jones to track them down like he has done in numerous movies in the past. Some people might feel that he is beating the trend of him being a tracker to death but he does it so well I don’t know how anyone can complain about another movies where he plays a part that he does so well. The added bonus this time is that is character this time has more depth and more of an intriguing factor as him and his daughter try and reconcile and get past all their problems from their pasts. The movie is a sprawling western that draws you in with its story, its grandeur and for the most part a really good cast of actors that play their parts to perfection. Your are never too sure where the movie is going and what is going to happen next but you simply cannot wait to find out as you are drawn into this movie that has a little bit of everything.
