Preston, Idaho's most curious resident, Napoleon Dynamite does not do anything like any other normal teenager as he has his own style that involves his fantasies and an obsession with ninjas. He lives with his grandma and his 31-year-old brother (who cruises chat rooms for ladies) that is until his grandma is injured and his Uncle Rico moves in. Rico is about to throw Napoleon’s life into a tailspin, as he is involved in a number of shady business deals that will take him to most of the residents of their small tall and cast a bad image on their family. Napoleon who recently befriends the new kid Pedro whom has become his best friend is determined to help his friend try and win Student Body President election. But to do so he will have to compete against the mean and highly popular Summer Wheatley who has the who school eating out of he hand. Along the way he will also meet Deb an equally awkward teenager that he immediately likes but has now idea how to approach nor talk to. So we take a journey through the life of an odd duck that doesn’t seem to realize that he is an odd duck.
The movie was just too over the top and quirky for me. Don’t get me wrong, there were points where I laughed very hard but a lot of the moments to me were just too stupid to laugh at. If you did laugh it was more like an awkward laugh as the movie is trying to say, hey were funny you should be laughing. The movie simply took the stupid for stupid’s sake bit too far, to the point where it was no longer funny but rather just uncomfortable and awkward. There have been movies like Dumb and Dumber that have proven being stupid can be funny; this movie proves being too stupid can be dull and dreary. If your expecting a plot or a story, I am sorry you are going to be disappointed as the movie makes a point to not make sense and just be a series of random events thrown together. The movie doesn’t even do a good job at playing the teen angst out and the turmoil’s of High School as Napoleon is just too weird for any of us to associate with or what he is going through. The movie is not a total loss, there are some funny moments and sometimes I was able to get all the quirky humor but for the most part I was disappointed and just found myself laughing out of them making me feel uncomfortable.
