Danny Ocean is a con man, he is a thief, he is a man of action, he is a smooth talker a quick witted criminal but he was caught for stealing valuable Incan Ceremonial Masks and has spent the last four years in prison. Less than 24 hours into his parole from a New Jersey penitentiary, the wry, charismatic thief is already rolling out his next plan. Following three rules don't hurt anybody, don't steal from anyone who doesn't deserve it, and play the game like you've got nothing to lose Danny is about to orchestrate the most sophisticated, elaborate casino heist in history. But Danny cannot do this alone as the plan is so complicated it will take a whole group of con artists pulling of dozens of different cons to pull the job off right. So In one night, Danny's handpicked 11-man crew of specialists some them his friends and past coconspirators in crimes including an ace card shark, a master pickpocket and a demolition genius and with their help he will attempt to steal over $150 million from three Las Vegas casinos owned by Terry Benedict, the elegant, ruthless entrepreneur. He will also enlist the help of a rival casino owner to help finance and orchestrate his crime. But when the plan gets going it is found out that Terry just happens to be dating Danny's ex-wife Tess who left him for being a thief. This could not only complicate the hest but it may also mean that Danny is in it for more than just money and that his vision may be clouded by emotion. So on the night of a prizefight all these problems are about to come to a head as these crooks try and pull off the impossible.
This movie takes a page out of old crime movies and rather than be simply all about one action sequence after another it is more about the cool delivery of its characters and the believability that they could pull off the job. It is quite a refreshing change to all the popcorn flicks that saturate the market now days as George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s dry deliveries are very well done and make you more interested in their characters. Both did good jobs at playing their characters so well that you will see them as the crooks they are portraying that our throwbacks to earlier days of crime movies. Many people don’t like when they remake classics like this one with the original that starred the Rat Pack in 1960 being so memorable but the actors did a very good job at pulling off this movie and did not shame the original. In fact this movie is as good as its predecessor as the producers seemed to cast the perfect actors for the roles and while none of them may be as good as the Rat Pack actors they all did a very good job at making this movie very believable and enjoyable. The movie has its twist and its turns, it has its action and adventure, it has its crime and criminals and will please most moviegoers.
