Navy SEAL Shane Wolfe (Vin Diesel), an elite member of the world's fiercest and most highly trained force thought he was prepared to take on any duty no matter how perilous or impossible... until he tried baby-sitting. Assigned to protect the five out-of-control children of an assassinated scientist working on vital government secrets, Shane is suddenly faced with juggling two outrageously incompatible jobs: fighting the bad guys while keeping house. Replacing his usual arsenal of wetsuits and weapons with diapers and juice boxes, Shane not only must battle a deceptive enemy but wrangle teen rebel Zoe (Brittany Snow), sullen 14 year-old Seth (Max Theriot), eight-year-old Ninja-wanna-be Lulu (Morgan York), as well as three-year-old Peter and baby Tyler -- not to mention their off-beat Romanian Nanny (Carol Kane). But while drop zones, demolitions and destroying enemy targets come naturally to Shane, he has no idea what tough really is until he pits his courage against diapering, den-mothering and driver's education. He's truly a SEAL out of water, and now it's up to this one-time lone warrior to take on the most important mission of his life: keeping a family together.
The movie had a good idea and a good story, that wasn’t the problem with the movie the problem, was the premise. The premise of him almost taking over as their lost father made the movie too cutesy and almost made you want to gag at times. Then again the movie lost me from the very first scenes as they did a very poor job of showing Vin Diesel as a NAVY Seal in the beginning, I could accept as a SEAL when he wasn’t on that first mission but the movie just played its hand too over the top to begin with. Sure the movie has its funny moments but for the most part they are lost amidst a slew of cutesy moments that make you sick and lose your attention. This movie has been done better and funnier, namely Kindergarten Cop.
I don’t know if Vin Diesel was the best actor for the role, when Arnold did it he showed comedic timing that was so much different than anything he had ever done before that it made the movie absolutely hilarious. Diesel just doesn’t have the comedic timing to pull the part off, sure he has the looks and the tough exterior but he just doesn’t work as a comical actor, he should stick to what he does best and that’s popcorn flicks. As bad as Diesel was at times Brad Garrett was even worse as the wrestling coach that just made you want to hurt him so you could get him off the screen. If you have seen the trailers, you have seen most of the funny moments of the movie and would be better off just skipping the movie all together.
