Michael Jennings is a brilliant computer engineer who specializes in reverse engineering, tearing apart other peoples technology to discover how it works and to duplicate it. His expertise in this field has him working for a number of high-tech corporations for specialized top-secret projects. In fact the projects are so top-secret that once a job is complete, Jennings routinely has his short-term memory erased so as not to divulge any sensitive company information to future clients. Highly paid for his work, he expects to earn $4.4 billion at the end of his latest 3-year project. But upon completion of the job, instead of a big paycheck, Jennings is handed an envelope filled with random objects and told that he has agreed to forfeit all payment. With his memory erased as usual, Jennings has no way to prove them wrong until he discovers the objects are clues to the puzzle that once was his past. But with Federal agents hot on his heels because of the project he had been working on, Jennings quickly learns that more than just his paycheck is at stake. He soon also finds that the FBI is not the only ones who want him dead as his former employers too seem to be after him. Now its a race against time, as Jennings must put the pieces together with the help of Rachel, the woman he has worked with and loved for the past three years who rekindles his memory of their life together, before the people he once worked for have him killed.
Stunning the movie is absolutely stunning as it draws you and enthralls you in a masterfully done thriller. The movie has a few surprises as it gets going but that’s not what makes it great. What makes it great is how it delivers those surprises in a movie that is nothing short of a roller coaster ride of action, suspense and adventure. Sure Ben Affleck is not the greatest actor but sometimes a movie is so well put together that the single performance of an actor does not affect it. For the most part Affleck does a pretty good job of keeping you glued to the movie screen, but it’s the story that takes your breath away. Also John Woo proves once again why he is such a masterful director as he weaves a tapestry of a movie where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. There has been a lot of good thrillers lately and all of them have the same ability to draw you in an entrance you with their splendor. The movie might classify as a popcorn flick a movie that is just fun to watch and does not contain and great depth but who cares as you are completely and totally entertained by this movie something all movies should at least strive for. If you are looking for a movie that will take you on a ride for two hours this is that kind of movie and you will not be disappointed.
