Two Tennessee boys Rafe McCawley and Danny Walker when they were children during the 1920's always dreamed about being pilots and heroes when they grew up. As best friends they decided to join the U.S. Army Air Corps as the world is amidst a World War that the US is trying to stay out of. Rafe is a hotshot ace pilot that has shown his friend everything about flying. The events are back drooped against the days before the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese and its aftermath on these two fictional characters that both fall in love with the same woman played by Kate Beckinsale. Now that war is afoot for the United States as the world these tow protagonists find themselves amongst those who must fight the imperialstic Japanese as well as the Nazi led Germany. Now torn between their friendship and the woman that they both love they are about to face trails and tribulations that can tear apart everything they know not to mention their friendship and even possibly their lives.

This movie billed itself as a historical tale of the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the United States entering World War II. This movie is not a historical enactment of anything and is not even aimed at an audience that would understand or appriciate such events. The movie instead a copy of Titanic another movie aimed at teenage audience back dropped against a famous historical event that could be viewed as a tragedy. And just like Titanic this movie is a horrific mess. It trivializes the lives of those who died my making a movie not about them but instead about a pair of fictional characters caught in a love triangle that you will find yourself not caring about. But the romance of this movie tried to wreck the whole thing as it was unbelievable, forced and way too Hollywoodish for you to swallow without gagging. I will admit thay some of the action sequence for this movie was incredible and the war scenes are some of the best I have ever seen. But the problem is while these were great the rest of the movie was a train wreck. The 45 minute sequence of the bombing of Pearl Harbor does not take place tell well over an hour and half into the movie of the sappy love story between two friends who love the same girl. By that time you are so bored you are wishing they would bomb your movie theatre. The movie could have used a good half hour to an hour of editing making the movie more action packed instead of trying to draw on previous success like Titanic instead of trying to find its own nitch. I still would say the movie was pretty good if you could just fast forward to the superb job they did with the bombing itself and skipped all the rest of the dribble. But alas such is not possible so instead you must fight your boredom to dig out what small nuggets of good that is in this movie. Not worth the time an effort.
