All children grow up… except one. Peter Pan is the boy who won't age and ran away from his parents when he was a child to go live in Neverland with the aid of a fairy named Tinkerbelle. Neverland is a land of pirates, Indians, mermaids and all sorts of wonder and adventure. He lives there with other ageless kids, the Lost Boys, who are also runaways like himself never wanting to grow and instead always wanting to stay boys and have fun. But everything is about to change when he wanders across a window that is inhabited by three children Wendy, John, and Michael Darling. Every night Wendy tells her brothers wonderful tales of adventure, pirates while Peter listens in from the window seal. Then one night Peter’s shadow escapes him and he chases it into the children’s nursery where he encounter Wendy and talks her into sailing off to Neverland where they have ability to fly; and will soon do battle with the evil Captain Hook and his band of pirates, meet mermaids and hang out with the Lost Boys. For in an epic battle Peter defeated Captain Hook chopping off his hand and feeding it to an alligator who has ever since been chasing Hook. It is Hook’s sole desire in the world to defeat Peter Pan and rule Neverland and now with Wendy and her brothers coming to Neverland he might finally have the chance if he can capture the children and use them as bait to lure Peter into a trap.
I am doing something very rare for me, and that is revising my thoughts on a movie after viewing it for a second time. The first time around I for some reason didn’t feel the magic that is Peter Pan, and instead wasn’t able to engross myself in the movie. The second time for me though was an entirely different experience, how I missed all the magic and wonder the first time around, I will never know. This movie is easily the best telling of the legend of Peter Pan and tells the story so well you feel like you are almost there. Granted there is some minor problems with the movie like the child actors who played John and Michael who just didn’t entirely capture the parts but watching the movie again I doubt they could have found a better Peter or a Wendy. Both these characters just seemed to come alive on the screen and they were so easy to see as the character they portrayed that it will be hard to ever top them. The first time around I found the movie just OK, its not as if I hated it but I just seemed to miss the magic, the second time though I found the movie great as this time it truly made me part of the movie and the legend. The special effects at times just seemed to whisk your imagination to Neverland as they did an incredible job of creating the fantastical world and everything was how you would have imagined it. The first time I was blown away by Jason Isaacs amazing portrayal of Captain Hook and the second time was no different as he steals the movie at times, as he is an incredible Hook. The movie excelled during the fight scenes between Hook and Pan and this time I also felt it excelled in the more dramatic moments as well and did not find it slow in the least, which was originally one of my comments on the movie. The kids will love the movie of course, and so will the adults if they let find away to let their imaginations soar into the clouds along with Peter himself.
