Fred is the leader, Daphne is the athletic and pretty one, Velma is the smart one, Shaggy and Scooby are the screw-ups that just make everything fun and silly. Mystery Inc is being honored for all the bad guys they have stopped by having a museum opened for them featuring the costumes of all the villains they have unmasked. But during the ceremony a new villain comes out and attacks the gang making them look like fools in front of all their fans and the press. But this villain seems to be something they have never faced before, as he seems to have found away to bring out real monsters to fight the gang using the very costumes of the past villains that they had once beaten. The gang shamed and humiliated goes back to headquarters to recoup where Shaggy and Scooby find out that the rest of the gang think of them as somewhat of screw-ups. Bound to prove them wrong and become real heroes Shaggy and Scooby head off to try and solve the case on their own. But these foolish wannabe heroes find out they may have bitten off more than they can choose as they begin to question whether they really are screw-ups. While at the same time Mystery Inc faces its biggest challenge ever, one that may finally beat them as ghosts, ghouls and monsters try and destroy them and the town of Coolville.
This movie can be described in four words: utterly silly and fun. I think to truly appreciate these movies you either have to be a kid or have grown up watching Scooby Doo cartoons. There is so many inside gags and references that if you never watched the cartoons you will not laugh half as hard if you don’t get the gags. I love that the movie does not take itself seriously just like the original and is more about having fun and almost mocking the cartoon while keeping its essence in tact. If you ever watched the cartoons they did the same thing making fun of themselves throughout with some biting wit and that’s half the reason they were so much fun. I still love the casting of the characters as each of the actors seem to fit very well with the personas of the characters they are playing. I am not sure about the addition of Seth Green but he really did not distract from the movie. These movies aren’t really about the plot because if you didn’t see who the true villain was halfway through the movie than you need to go watch some more cartoons/ these movies are more about just being silly, having fun and laughing. If you are a fan of the cartoon or a kid at heart you will like this movie.
