Sinbad is a legendary sailor, sometimes pirate and sometimes hero of epic proportions. This is a tale of one of his many adventures but not one of his seven great voyages documented elsewhere. Sinbad is trying to steal the Book of Peace that is on a journey back to Syracuse. The Book of Peace protects the twelve cities of ancient time and provides peace and prosperity for the lands. Sinbad hopes to be able to steal the book and ransom it off for enough money to retire to Fiji and a life of luxury lounging on a beach. But he discovers that an old friend Proteus is its protector and when a giant squid interrupts him during his theft Proteus escapes with the book. But things are about to become more interesting and perilous of Sinbad as the Goddess of Chaos Eris has her own designs for the book and they involve Sinbad. So when Eris steals the book for herself she frames Sinbad for the crime. So now its up to Sinbad to travel to the realm that Eris resides in, where he is challenged by terrifying monsters which include a giant scorpion, a giant serpent and the Roc, a 40-foot-tall bird made of ice and snow to recover the book, prove his innocence and save the life of Proteus. Even if Sinbad can defeat all of these monsters, he also has to deal with the effects of Eris' golden "Apple of Discord", which has the ability to turn friends into enemies when thrown in their midst. Along the way Marina, Proteus' girlfriend, stows away on Sinbad's ship to make sure that he fulfills his mission and causes a little strife herself.

By far the best animated adventure and movie of the summer. As some may already know I was highly disappointed with Pixar’s latest incarnation and mockery of the film industry. And while Sinbad was far from perfect it was still a very enjoyable and fun animated film that worked on both levels that of adults and that of the children. I think that is essential and I think Pixar has forgotten this when making their movies. Like I said the movie isn’t perfect and is still quite formulistic doing and saying exactly what you expect it to do right down to the ending. But it was charming, fun and full of adventure and perilous’ sequences that were so much fun to watch even though you knew the outcome well beforehand. The movie strays far from the legend of Sinbad inventing its own little story so if you were expecting on of the tales of the Arabian nights you are not going to get it. I do wish that these types of movies would occasionally challenge the genres they are in and do something different but I doubt most children and their parents would accept anything but the happy ever after syndrome of animated films. Still the movie was entertaining and charming but there have been so many better animated movies out that you wish they could have found their own niche. Its no Toy Story but you should find that for an hour and a half you are still entertained by a nice animated action adventure movie.
