The comic book comes to the big screen for the very first time. Peter Park a science geek and much picked on 17-year-old high school kid is on a field trip to Osborne Labs where he is accidentally bitten by a spider that has been treated with radiation. The spider’s bite does something to him altering his genetics. He wakes up the next few days finding out that he has supernatural powers of the spider. He can walk on walls; he has increased agility, strength and endurance. He also has his own web to do some swinging with.

With his new powers he want to make some money to impress the girl he loves Mary Jane Watson but is afraid to approach. So he decides to become a professional wrestler where he builds a spider costume and gets dubbed THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN. After the match a small time thief robs the arena and when he runs by Peter, Peter doesn't try to stop him. But when he is heading home he finds out his uncle who has been a father to him has been killed. So he takes it on himself to the hunt the killer and when he finally traps him in an abandoned warehouse he finds out it was the same small time thief he could have stopped earlier.

This leads him towards his heroic path because of some of the last words his uncle spoke to him "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility." So now all decked out in his spider costume he goes to New York to become a super hero, face off against a mad man villain The Green Goblin, and try to win the girl he loves.

The movie was absolutely amazing, fitting for a Spiderman movie. The special effects were superb and the story while not always action packed was filled in with good drama when the action wasn't there. The movie follows pretty close to the comic books with only a few minor discrepancies and one major one. The on e that did bother me was a little is that Peter did not develop his own web as this has always been a major part of the comics with him running out or getting his web shooters crushed. It also was a way to show his scientific mind. Other than that the story was really great.

The movie picks up in pace as it goes from simply telling you the story to finally moving to the high paced action scenes that end the movie. The acting was very good with some stellar performances like Toby's portrayal of Peter himself. I though that J Jonah Jameson could have been better acted but since his part is relatively small in the movie it doesn't hurt it too much. Also the storywriters should have put in more one-liners for Spiderman himself, as his smart assed remarks are a huge part of the comics.

The movie overall was a great watch and a movie that many people might want to see twice. Only one part took anything away and that was the overly sappy and unnecessary part of the ending. I understand that they were trying to set up the romance between Mary Jane and Peter but it was to overboard. Must see movie.
