For Peter Parker the duel identity of Spiderman and normal average everyday college kid is taking its toll. Always late for jobs and classes because of the ever demanding job of being Spiderman has put Peter’s financial as well as schoolwork in serious jeopardy of failure. Not only that Peter is coping with the choice he made to not tell Mary Jane the truth about his love for her to protect her from Spiderman’s enemies. It also seems that all of New York has turned on him as his best friend Harry still blames the wall crawler for his fathers death and all the bad press that the Daily Bugle is heaping on him makes him question whether he made the right choice to become Spiderman. Finally fed up with all the troubles that being a superhero has caused him Peter decides to retire Spiderman and try and fix his life. But he may have chosen the worst possible moment to give up his web slinging, as there is a new super villain in town. Doctor Otto Octavious a scientist who dreams of making fusion a viable power source is caught in a terrible accident that welds four mechanical arms to his spine. And these arms embedded with nano technology have a mind of their own at times it seems. Determined to continue his project Doc Ock is terrorizing New York to raise the funds for his project. But when Harry decides to use Doc Ock to get his revenge on Spiderman, Peter Parker must make a choice whether the superhero life is the one for him.
While watching Spiderman 2 I could not help but notice and see all the similarities to Superman 2. Now, this is not a bad thing as Superman 2 is easily the best Superman they did, as it had a great storyline and drama the same goes for Spiderman 2. I just have to question the choice to not go out on their own, whether the similarities are a coincidence or not, it just seemed to easy to follow the tried and true story even if it is kind of fitting for both stories. The first movie clearly sets up the characters and the second one gets to have fun with them, and of course you have to have your superhero question the choices he has made and wish for a simpler life. It makes the characters more real and the story more dramatic as you wait for the hero to step forward and accept his destiny and fight the bad guys.
To me the ending of the first movie was the weakest parts and for me the ending of the second movie happens to be its best moments. They vastly improved on how they ended the second movie, not straying into the sappiness that plagued the first ones final moments. If I had something to bad to say about the movie is that I could not wait for the action to get into full swing and for the conflicts come to a head. I know they had to set up the story and develop Doc Ock’s character but its Spiderman and I want to see Spiderman kick some ass. There is still a need for a little tweaking as far as the CGI goes but that too was vastly improved on from the first movie as some of the actions scenes especially those on top of the train will leave you breathless and speechless. The movie delivers on all its promises as there is tons of action, there is plenty of drama and there were moments where I could hardly contain myself from standing up in the theatre and cheering wildly.
