Dr. Jerry Peyser is a mild-mannered podiatrist who organizes everything in his life down to the smallest detail in an effort to eliminate all possible sources of stress. While Steve Tobias is a daredevil CIA operative who does everything by the seat of pants from one crazy adventure to the next in a whirlwind of excitement and chaos dodging bullets, stealing private jets and negotiating with international arms smugglers. These two men could not be any different and under normal circumstances would never meet. But the circumstances that bring them together are anything but normal, they are to be in laws as Jerry’s daughter is about to marry Steve’s son. Now he's giving potential father-of-the-bride Jerry a serious case of pre-nuptial jitters. While Steve is in the middle of the biggest bust in his career he must try and juggle the upcoming wedding with his career. But when Steve accidentally gets Jerry involved in a world of crime and espionage Jerry is not sure if he is really an agent or if he has gone totally rogue. So Jerry suddenly finds himself embroiled in the chaos that follows in Steve's wake as he is dragged kicking and screaming into a series of perilous adventures that take the mismatched in-laws-to-be halfway around the world. But will Steve and Jerry ever be able to get along and coexist or will the two of them manage to ruin their children’s wedding as all hell breaks loose as Steve tries to fix everything, but just seems to cause more chaos then help. But have they forgotten the soon to be newlyweds who seem to have their own problems or will it to be late to salvage the wedding.

This just happens to be one of those movies that just seems to go so far above and beyond its premise simply because of its casting and ends up being one of the funniest movies of all time. They could not have cast two characters more perfectly then they did as Albert Brooks and Michael Douglas make one of the funniest odd couples on the big screen in a long time. They just seemed to feed off each other, one as the chaotic crazy individual and the other as the straight-laced normal guy thrown together in a tale of utter insanity. The ending did get a little sappy and ends how you would expect it to, but the five minutes of predictability does not detract from the previous hour and half of hilarity. I found myself busting up in laughter throughout as Douglas and Brooks just drew me in with perfect comedic timing and a simple yet hilarious premise. A lot of movies play with the funniness of In Laws but not since Meet the Parents have I seen such a funny movie involving them. They went just beyond taking a overused premise and hashing through it, instead they excelled at making a simple story into one of the funniest movies in recent memory. Go see it for the laughs and the good times.
