Business partners John Beckwith (Owen Wilson) and Jeremy Grey (Vince Vaughn) are also best friends that go way back. Every year they get together and go on a binge of crashing weddings to take advantage of the romance in the air and ultimately, to score with the jealous bridesmaids, or any other single woman for that matter. John and Jeremy are very smooth and do a lot of research to get a back-story that explains who they are, how they are connected to the families and why they are there. They also have what seems to be at least a hundred rules to ensure the crashing of the wedding goes as planned and of course, this could not be possible without the original wedding crasher, Chaz (Will Ferrell), who is not only THE wedding crasher, but also an innovator. This all works very well for them until they decide to crash the wedding of weddings, Secretary Cleary's (Christopher Walken) daughter and her new husband-to-be. John was unable to achieve his goal at the Cleary wedding of establishing a relationship with his other daughter, Claire (Rachel McAdams), who he is also falling in love with. Jeremy, too, is having his problems after achieving his goal with the Secretary's other daughter, Gloria (Isla Fisher), perhaps a bit too quickly, as he finds out it was her first time and she quickly attaches herself. The long story made short, both John and Jeremy end up on an extended weekend with the Cleary family and hilarity ensues.

What, who, when, where? Some movies are better than they should have ever been possible of, Wedding Crashers is up there with the best of them. The movie is simple but the laughs are plentiful. Two guys who use weddings as an excuse to pick up woman easily find themselves trapped in a situation they cannot escape as the one can’t seem to beat the boyfriend to get the girl and the other just wants to run as fast as he can in the other direction. The movie doesn’t even sound that funny but trust me it is as some of the crazy things that happen have to been seen to be believed. The movie is crude, it’s ruthlessly blunt and is like a long tasteless sex joke that for some reason is hilarious when it really shouldn’t be. When the movie fails and it does eventually is when it tries to show heart to its own determent. The movie is better off as a crude joke whispered between cubicles or at a party and not as a life lesson of love, loss and heartache.

I was skeptical at the casting as Vince Vaughn can be hilarious when he’s not trying to hard but most of the time sadly he is trying to hard and comes off over the top. He does that again in this movie because his antics are way over the top and side splitting funny but the thing is the movie is made for his over the top style. It’s like when telling the crude joke sometimes waving your arms around and making funny body language just enhances the joke and his over the top acting also makes the movie that much more funny. Then there is Owen Wilson who at one time seemed like he was going to be Hollywood’s next hilarious innovator but rather became to look like a talent less hack after numerous unfunny movies. And while he holds his own in Wedding Crashers it is Vaughn who makes the movie and Wilson who only occasionally delivers a laugh. The movie is hilarious and fun, it also crude and over the top but heck we all enjoy the tasteless sex joke now and then too.
