Based on the long-running and very popular Marvel comic book series, X-MEN takes place in a near and possible future, as certain humans are evolving into mutants who have special powers from this mutation, from the ability to walk through walls to abilities like controlling the minds of others. In the Canadian wilderness, a young runaway mutant named Rogue meets up with a bad-tempered mutant who has the ability to heal quickly and who also has a pair of retractable metal claws that they call Wolverine. When they are suddenly attacked by a mutant called Sabertooth, who is working for a very powerful mutant called Magneto who has started a group called the Brotherhood of Mutants to combat normal humans. It is then that they meet up and are saved by several other mutants. Cyclops and Storm are students of the compassionate Professor Charles Xavier who has begun a school for gifted youngsters or in other words a school to help teach and train mutants to use their abilities. After their rescue this is where Rogue and Wolverine are brought to, to not only give them medical attention but to also find out why Magneto wants them. Here Wolverine and Rogue learn more about the conflict between Xavier and the militant Magneto, who wants to power a device that will genetically alter humans, with possibly deadly results. Only Xavier's students can stop Magneto's plans. So now its up to Rogue, Wolverine, and the whole gang of super heroes to go out and combat those who would rule the world with their new abilities.

This movie proves that comic books can make very good movies. With only comic books from the DC world being made into movies such as Superman and Batman, Marvel makes its debut with its most popular and possibly the most popular comic book out there. Marvel comics are more interesting and the characters are less one-dimensional than its DC counterparts so this movie already had a lot going for it as it easily upstages all comic book movies that came before it. The best part of the movie has to be the action as this movie has quite a few great action scenes as good vs. evil battle to see who will rule the world. The fight scenes are magnificent as mutants with superhuman powers face off with each other. It is opportune that Marvel waited to do this movie as now technology has advanced enough that they were able to do a wonderful job at showing the mutant powers of such players as Cyclops and Storm that needed this technology to be done right and show their powers properly. A lot of the movie has to do with character development as you learn about each of the mutants and what makes them special or in the case of the brotherhood what makes them so evil and sinister. Everyone has their own favorite mutant and while the movie doesn’t showcase as many mutants as the comic you easily find yourself rooting for one mutant or another in the battle of good vs. evil. The story can be simplistic at times but the movie does a great job of opening up what may possibly be a great line of movies and sequels in the near future. A must see if you like action and adventure as well as comic books.
